The Influence of Age and Sex on Genetic Associations with Adult Body Size and Shape: A Large-Scale Genome-Wide Interaction Study
- T. Winkler, A. Justice, R. Loos
- Biology, MedicinePLoS Genetics
- 1 October 2015
This is the first genome-wide interaction meta-analysis to report convincing evidence of age-dependent genetic effects on BMI and the sex-specificity of Genetic Investigation of Anthropometric Traits (GIANT) Consortium, and it is confirmed that this effect is related to weight change with age or the sexually dimorphism of body shape.
Immune signature drives leukemia escape and relapse after hematopoietic cell transplantation
- C. Toffalori, L. Zito, L. Vago
- Biology, MedicineNature Network Boston
- 25 March 2019
The results demonstrate that the deregulation of pathways involved in T cell-mediated allorecognition is a distinctive feature and driver of AML relapses after allo-HCT, which can be rapidly translated into personalized therapies.
Novel Approach Identifies SNPs in SLC2A10 and KCNK9 with Evidence for Parent-of-Origin Effect on Body Mass Index
- C. Hoggart, Giulia Venturini, Z. Kutalik
- BiologyPLoS Genetics
- 1 July 2014
A novel approach to detect parent-of-origin effects (POEs) in genome-wide genotype data of unrelated individuals is presented and it is demonstrated that they play an important role in adult obesity.
Genetic loci associated with heart rate variability and their effects on cardiac disease risk
- I. Nolte, M. Munoz, E. D. de Geus
- BiologyNature Communications
- 14 June 2017
These findings provide clinically relevant biological insight into heritable variation in vagal heart rhythm regulation, with a key role for genetic variants (GNG11, RGS6) that influence G-protein heterotrimer action in GIRK-channel induced pacemaker membrane hyperpolarization.
Treatment of male rats with finasteride, an inhibitor of 5alpha-reductase enzyme, induces long-lasting effects on depressive-like behavior, hippocampal neurogenesis, neuroinflammation and gut…

Genome-Wide and Gene-Based Meta-Analyses Identify Novel Loci Influencing Blood Pressure Response to Hydrochlorothiazide
- E. Salvi, Zhiying Wang, S. Turner
- Biology, MedicineHYPERTENSION
- 2017
The gene-based analysis provided a powerful strategy to identify a locus of interest, which was not identified in the genome-wide meta-analysis because of high allelic heterogeneity, and pave the way for future investigations on new pathways and drug targets to enhance the current understanding of personalized antihypertensive treatment.
Interaction between polyphenols intake and PON1 gene variants on markers of cardiovascular disease: a nutrigenetic observational study
- F. Rizzi, C. Conti, C. Barlassina
- Medicine, BiologyJournal of Translational Medicine
- 23 June 2016
Protective genotypes in four independent polymorphisms in PON1 could represent novel biomarkers to stratify individuals who might benefit from targeted dietary recommendation for health promotion and strategies of preventive medicine.
Mitochondrial metabolic reprogramming controls the induction of immunogenic cell death and efficacy of chemotherapy in bladder cancer
- B. Oresta, C. Pozzi, M. Rescigno
- Biology, MedicineScience Translational Medicine
- 6 January 2021
It is shown that MMC promotes immunogenic cell death (ICD), and in vivo tumor protection, and mitochondria-mediated ICD as a mechanism of action of MMC offers opportunities to optimize bladder cancer management and provides potential markers of treatment efficacy that could be used for patient stratification.
