GENETIC AND MORPHOLOGICAL HETEROGENEITY IN SMALL RODENT WHIPWORMS IN SOUTHWESTERN EUROPE: CHARACTERIZATION OF TRICHURIS MURIS AND DESCRIPTION OF TRICHURIS ARVICOLAE N. SP. (NEMATODA: TRICHURIDAE)
- C. Feliu, M. Špakulová, P. Durand
- BiologyJournal of Parasitology
- 1 June 2000
Although ranges of all morphological characters of the new species overlapped with those of T. muris, stepwise discriminant analysis yielded a 100% accurate classification of females when using vagina length and egg size, and the existence of 2 species of Trichuris restricted to different host families was indicated.

Resurrection of Pomphorhynchus tereticollis (Rudolphi, 1809) (Acanthocephala: Pomphorhynchidae) based on new morphological and molecular data
- M. Špakulová, M. Perrot-Minnot, B. Neuhaus
- BiologyHelminthologia

SummaryPomphorhynchus tereticollis (Rudolphi, 1809) is here redescribed on the basis of Rudolphi’s material, deposited in the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, and on acanthocephalans recently collected…

Application of the primers is of particular value for molecular differentiation of morphologically hardly distinguishable F. hepatica, F. magna and P. cervi eggs after coprological examinations.
Sequence Analysis of Ribosomal and Mitochondrial Genes of the Giant Liver Fluke Fascioloides magna (Trematoda: Fasciolidae): Intraspecific Variation and Differentiation from Fasciola hepatica
- I. Králová-Hromadová, M. Špakulová, M. Pybus
- BiologyJournal of Parasitology
- 1 February 2008
Short (<500 bp) variable regions suitable for broader biogeographical studies of giant liver fluke were designed and determined to allow molecular differentiation of F. magna and F. hepatica.
Intraspecific variability of Proteocephalus exiguus La Rue, 1911 (Cestoda: Proteocephalidae) as studied by the random amplified polymorphic DNA method
- I. Král’ová, M. Špakulová
- BiologyParasitology Research
- 1996
The intraspecific variability of Proteocephalus exiguus, a common fish cestode, was studied by the random amplified polymorphic DNA method and constant fragments observed in all isolates detected by eight primers characterized the species studied.
Discriminant analysis as a method for the numerical evaluation of taxonomic characters in male trichurid nematodes
- M. Špakulová
- BiologySystematic Parasitology
- 1 October 1994
The length and width of the spicule and body length proved to be the best diagnostic characters for the trichurid males studied and permitted fairly reliable differentiation of the species T. ovis, T. skrjabini and T. sylvilagi.
DESCRIPTION OF BUCEPHALUS ANGUILLAE N. SP. (TREMATODA: BUCEPHALIDAE), A PARASITE OF THE EEL ANGUILLA ANGUILLA (ANGUILLIDAE) FROM A BRACKISH WATER LAGOON OF THE ADRIATIC SEA
- M. Špakulová, J. Macko, F. Berrilli, B. Dezfuli
- Biology, Environmental ScienceJournal of Parasitology

The results based on the ITS sequences confirmed the occurrence of strains in P. laevis from Continental Europe which are well defined by molecules but reveal only slight differences in their morphology.
