It is suggested that the genus Anisakis has substantial host and geographical distributions in this region and may be a “hybrid” between A. pegreffii and A. simplex sensu stricto.

Four species of Procyrnea were collected in birds from the Area de Conservacion Guanacaste, Costa Rica and are similar to P. strialata and P. mawsonae in body size and in having 2 transverse striated lateral alae, but differs by having longer and differently shaped spicules, and by lacking a single preanal sessile papilla.
Molecular Phylogeny and Dating Reveal a Terrestrial Origin in the Early Carboniferous for Ascaridoid Nematodes
The divergence dates and ancestral host types indicated by the study suggest that members of the Ascaridoidea first parasitized terrestrial tetrapods, and subsequently, extended their host range to elasmobranchs and teleosts.

During a helminthological survey of Chinese marine fishes from 2011 to 2012, it was revealed that L. tanakae was heavily infected with third-stage larvae and adults of ascaridoid nematodes and represented a new host record for A. pegreffii and H. fabri.
Detection of ascaridoid nematode parasites in the important marine food-fish Conger myriaster (Brevoort) (Anguilliformes: Congridae) from the Zhoushan Fishery, China
This study represents the first report of C. myriaster from the Zhoushan Fishery being heavily infected with third-stage ascaridoid larvae, and suggests a high risk of anisakidosis or associated allergies for people consuming raw or poorly cooked fish originating from this marine area.
