In defense of soft-assignment coding
- Lingqiao Liu, Lei Wang, Xinwang Liu
- Computer ScienceVision
- 6 November 2011
A simple modification to localize the soft-assignment coding is proposed, which surprisingly achieves comparable or even better performance than existing sparse or local coding schemes while maintaining its computational advantage.
Are You Talking to a Machine? Dataset and Methods for Multilingual Image Question
- Haoyuan Gao, Junhua Mao, Jie Zhou, Zhiheng Huang, Lei Wang, W. Xu
- Computer ScienceNIPS
- 21 May 2015
The mQA model, which is able to answer questions about the content of an image, is presented, which contains four components: a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), an LSTM for storing the linguistic context in an answer, and a fusing component to combine the information from the first three components and generate the answer.
On Similarity Preserving Feature Selection
- Zheng Zhao, Lei Wang, Huan Liu, Jieping Ye
- Computer ScienceIEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data…
- 1 March 2013
It is shown, through theoretical analysis, that the proposed framework not only encompasses many widely used feature selection criteria, but also naturally overcomes their common weakness in handling feature redundancy.
Efficient Spectral Feature Selection with Minimum Redundancy
- Zheng Zhao, Lei Wang, Huan Liu
- Computer ScienceAAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence
- 3 July 2010
This work proposes a novel spectral feature selection algorithm to handle feature redundancy, adopting an embedded model derived from a formulation based on a sparse multi-output regression with a L2,1-norm constraint.
Feature Selection with Kernel Class Separability
- Lei Wang
- Computer ScienceIEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine…
- 1 September 2008
A class separability criterion is developed in a high-dimensional kernel space, and feature selection is performed by the maximization of this criterion, which is applied to a variety of selection modes with different search strategies.

Revenue Management for a Primary-Care Clinic in the Presence of Patient Choice
A Markov decision process model is developed for the appointment-booking problem in which the patients' choice behavior is modeled explicitly and it is proved that the optimal policy is a threshold-type policy as long as the choice probabilities satisfy a weak condition.
Multiple Kernel k-Means Clustering with Matrix-Induced Regularization
- Xinwang Liu, Y. Dou, Jianping Yin, Lei Wang, En Zhu
- Computer ScienceAAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence
- 12 February 2016
This paper proposes an MKKM clustering with a novel, effective matrix-induced regularization to reduce such redundancy and enhance the diversity of the selected kernels and shows that maximizing the kernel alignment for clustering can be viewed as a special case of this approach.
