An experiment was conducted on 16 crossbred bulls (about 2 years of age, 316.2+/-0.77 kg average body weight), divided into groups I, II, III and IV to study the effect of different levels of Zn supplementation from inorganic and organic sources on semen quality. The animals in the first 3 groups were supplemented with 0, 35 and 70 ppm Zn from Zn sulfate,… (More)
The present study was undertaken to assess the effect of dietary supplementation of Tinospora cordifolia on physico-morphological, biochemical, antioxidant profiles and serum testosterone concentration in Muzzafarnagari rams. Twelve rams were randomly divided into two groups, control (n=6) and supplemental (n=6) group. The control group was fed with a diet… (More)
Neutral glycolipids (NGL) were isolated and quantitated in 98 primary human brain tumors; 19 low grade astrocytomas (LGA), 12 anaplastic astrocytomas (AA), 37 high grade astrocytomas (HGA), 18 oligodendroglial tumors, and 12 primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNET). In 38 of these, the nature of the hexose in the cerebroside was determined using… (More)
During mycological forays, several species of fungi parasitic on aquatic plants, mostly weeds were collected around Varanasi, U . P. Some interesting species are described here. Portions of the type materials have been deposited at the Commonwealth Mycological Institute, Kew, England and at Herbarium Cryptogamiae Indiae Orientalis, Indian Agricultural… (More)
Germination experiments were carried out with varying but equivalent amounts of NH4Cl, (NH4)2SO4, and NH4NO3, while in one experiment urea was included. It could be stated that the inhibitory effect on germination was ionic in nature, the effect of urea being rather small, while it was safer to use NH4Cl or (NH4)2SO4 than NH4NO3, especially under dry… (More)
Spherical silica nanoparticles (n‐SiO2) with controllable size have been synthesized using tetraethoxysilane as starting material and ethanol as solvent by sol‐gel method. Morphology and size of the particles was controlled through surfactants. Sorbitan monolaurate, sorbitain monopalmitate and sorbitain monostearate produced … (More)
A study was carried out to assess the effect of sequestration of PDC-109 protein, a majority constituent of heparin binding proteins (HBP) of seminal plasma, on freezability and in vitro fertilizing ability of crossbred bull spermatozoa after cryopreservation. The study consisted of isolation and characterization of PDC-109 protein to raise anti-sera… (More)
Monosporidial and monoteliosporic cultures of Narasimhania alismatis Pavgi & Thirumalachar parasitic on Alisma reniforme D. Don. yielded culture colonies exhibiting a differential behavior conditioned by the nuclear status, presence of compatible strains in the colony and incubation temperature. Implications for survival of the fungus are indicated.
A Physoderma species selectively parasitic in the ovaries of bulrush (Scirpus articulatus L.) is described and named as Physoderma thirumalacharii Pavgi & Singh.
Teliospore germination and nuclear behavior were studied in Narasimhania alismatis Pavgi and Thirumalachar, the monotypic aquatic smut in the fam. Tilletiaceae. The diploid fusion nucleus undergoes a meiotic nuclear division within the teliospore and the haploid chromosome complement was determined as n = 4 chromosomes. Several aberrations in the teliospore… (More)
