The findings indicate that beta-PCT and its optical isomers are useful affinity ligands to examine the biochemical and functional characteristics of brain cholinergic receptors.
Allosteric and competitive interactions of 2 alpha-(2',2'-disubstituted- hydroxy-ethoxy)tropane and its optical isomers at rat central muscarinic acetylcholine receptors.
Both allosteric and competitive interactions of 2 alpha-DHET and its four optical isomers with muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in rat cerebral cortex were investigated but the competitive binding potencies of these compounds were significantly different.

Effects of 2 alpha-DHET and its optical isomers on muscarinic and nicotinic receptors.
A good correlation was observed between the affinities to muscarinic receptors and the antimuscarinic potencies in isolated guinea pig ileum and the binding data for 2 alpha-DHET and its isomers were consistent with their central and peripheral pharmacological activity in vivo.
