Preservation and incubation time-induced bias in tracer-aided grazing studies on meiofauna
- T. Moens, L. Verbeeck, M. Vincx
- Environmental Science
- 28 January 1999
The cumulative effect of label leakage, prey egestion and long incubation times, each at the highest rates observed in this study, may yield as much as a 15-fold underestimation of true food consumption.
Selective attraction of marine bacterivorous nematodes to their bacterial food
- T. Moens, L. Verbeeck, A. D. Maeyer, J. Swings, M. Vincx
- Biology
- 1999
The present results strongly support the importance of food patchiness in determining the heterogeneous distribution of nematodes, and extend the concept in such a way as to allow for small differences in mlcrohabitat choice between closely related species.
Feeding biology of a predatory and a facultatively predatory nematode (Enoploides longispiculosus and Adoncholaimus fuscus)
- T. Moens, L. Verbeeck, M. Vincx
- Environmental Science
- 13 August 1999
It is concluded that E. longispiculosus has a fairly strict predatory feeding strategy, while A. fuscus gains a majority of C from additional foraging strategies, among which the uptake of dissolved material and scavenging on macrofauna carcasses may be of particular importance.
Predation rates and prey selectivity in two predacious estuarine nematode species
- T. Moens, P. Herman, L. Verbeeck, M. Steyaert, M. Vincx
- Environmental Science
- 19 October 2000
The high predation rates and prey selectivity of predacious nematodes may be important structuring fac- tors to meiofaunal communities.
Detection and quantification of selenium in proteins by means of gel electrophoresis and electrothermal vaporization ICP-MS
- C. Chery, H. Chassaigne, L. Verbeeck, R. Cornelis, F. Vanhaecke, L. Moens
- Chemistry
- 7 June 2002
A method for the separation of selenium-containing proteins and subsequent detection and quantification of selenium was developed. First, the proteins are fractionated by means of sodium…
