A comprehensive comparison of different classes of methods (linear and nonlinear regressions, phase synchronization, and generalized synchronization) based on various simulation models is proposed and shows that the performances of the compared methods are highly dependent on the hypothesis regarding the underlying model for the generation of the signals.

The results show that the matching pursuit method is very suitable to the transient and complex properties of the PCGs, as it yielded excellent NRMSEs around 2.2% for the two sets of 11 PCGs tested.

An enhanced local mean-field model that is suitable for simulating the electroencephalogram (EEG) in different depths of anesthesia is presented and it is shown that the enhanced model may have different working states driven by anesthetic drug concentration.
