An unreported invasive bryozoan that can affect livelihoods - Membraniporopsis tubigera in New Zealand and Brazil
- D. Gordon, L. Ramalho, P. Taylor
- Geology
- 2006
The relatively sudden appearance of an “unknown” bryozoan species in two widely separated parts of the world was assumed to be significant and investigations to ascertain its taxonomic identity and possible significance were reported.

Carbonate Production by Benthic Communities on Shallow Coralgal Reefs of Abrolhos Bank, Brazil
- Vanessa Moura dos Reis, C. S. Karez, G. Amado-Filho
- Environmental SciencePLoS ONE
- 27 April 2016
Given that marine heat waves produce an increase of turf cover on the shallow reefs of the Abrolhos, a decrease in the cover represented by reef builders and shifting carbonate production are expected in the near future.
Taxonomic revision of some lepraliomorph cheilostome bryozoans (Bryozoa: Lepraliomorpha) from Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil
- L. Ramalho, G. Muricy, P. Taylor
- Biology
- 24 March 2011
Five new species of lepraliomorph-grade ascophorans are described from the coastal waters off Rio de Janeiro State in Brazil and the biodiversity of the bryozoan fauna from Brazil is increased, and the number of species known now totals 79.

- L. Ramalho, P. Taylor, G. Muricy
- Biology
- 1 February 2014
The recent identification of these species in the state of Rio de Janeiro suggests two possibilities: it is difficult to find them due to small size and cryptic habitat, and/or they represent introduced species.
Bryozoans are Major Modern Builders of South Atlantic Oddly Shaped Reefs
- A. Bastos, R. Moura, J. Webster
- Environmental Science, GeographyScientific Reports
- 25 June 2018
Underwater cores used to investigate Late Holocene reef growth and characterise the main framework builders in the Abrolhos Shelf show a complex framework building system dominated by bryozoans, and propose that a combination of historical factors with the low storm-disturbance regime of the tropical South Atlantic contributed to the region’s low diversity.
