The study provides robust genetic evidence that a newly isolated naked ameba with morphological and ultrastructural features indicative of Heterolobosea is a new species and points to the potentially dubious validity of some current nominal species of Hetteroloboseda that differ from one another in just one or two base positions.

It is proposed that the Mexican isolates obtained from water samples taken from a thermal spring, "Agua Caliente", in Northwestern Mexico represent a new species of Stenamoeba.

54 hits were identified that significantly inhibited the growth of B. mandrillaris in vitro from an initial single point screen at 1 and 10 μM, which aimed to discover new leads for drug discovery by screening the open-source Medicines for Malaria Venture Malaria Box and MMV Pathogen Box, with 800 compounds total.
