Cytoplasmic sterility in derivatives ofSolanum demissum
- L. Dionne
- BiologyAmerican Potato Journal
- 1 April 1961
This work has shown that when F1 hybrids of the reciprocal cross (diploid species xS. demissum) are crossed with S. tuberosum, many of the resultant hybrids are highly functional as males, indicating that male sterility in S. Demissum derivatives is cytoplasmically conditioned.
The in vitro induction of adventitious shoot and root apices on Narcissus (daffodil and narcissus) cultivar tissue
- J. Seabrook, B. Cumming, L. Dionne
- Biology
- 1 May 1976
A new technique is reported here for the rapid propagation of Narcissus cultivars involving the induction of shoot and root apices from small pieces of leaf base tissue, inverted scape sections, and…
2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid as an aid to Seed Production when widely separated Solanum Species are crossed
- L. Dionne
- BiologyNature
- 1 February 1958
This work showed that some pollen germinated in all attempted crosses between several tuber-bearing series of the genus Solanum, and apparently normal pollen tubes were even observed at the bases of S. phureja Juz.
The continuous culture of excised potato roots
Summary The establishment of potato root cultures from 1 mm root tips was achieved on a modified White§ medium containing tuber extract, casein hydrolysate and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. This…
A SQUASH METHOD FOR SOMATIC CHROMOSOMES OF APHIDS
Embryonic aphids are a good source of aphid chromosomes when extruded and left for 15 minutes in 25% Ringer's solution, fixed for 1 hour in a mixture of 2 parts glacial acetic acid, 2 parts 95% eth...
Doubling the chromosome number of selectedSolanum genotypes
- R. W. Ross, L. Dionne, R. Hougas
- BiologyEuropean Potato Journal
- 1 March 1967
A new technique for doubling the chromosome number of potato clones was used to treat 54 diploid (2n−24) genotypes selected for desirable tuber characteristics and yield and appears to be the most efficient method of clonal doubling reported thus far.
Studies on the genus Apios. I. Chromosome number and distribution of Apios americana and A. priceana
- J. Seabrook, L. Dionne
- Environmental Science
- 15 November 1976
Two sonatic chromosome numbers were found for the leguminous plant Apios americana Medikus, i.e., 22 and 33, which were interpreted as diploid and triploid, and one of these was distributed over much of the northern range of the species.
Mechanisms of interspecific incompatibility in tuber-bearingSolanum species
- L. Dionne
- BiologyAmerican Potato Journal
- 1 March 1961
Crosses in which the various mechanisms leading to a lack of seed formation that were encountered are listed are listed in this paper.
GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF POTATO CALLUS IN SUSPENSION CULTURES
Large numbers of shiny, rounded pearl-like callus masses were obtained and the development of these callus bodies and their subsequent growth proved better when the kinin used in the medium was 6(γ,γ-dimethylallylamino)-purine.
Staining germinating pollen and pollen tubes.
Germinating pollen on stigmas and pollen tubes in styles of Antirrhinum, Brassica, Oenothera, Raphanus, Rosa, solatium and Tagetes spp. were prepared for examination as follows: The styles were fixed…
