The results suggest that structural polymorphisms in the hPer3 gene may be implicated in the pathogenesis of DSPS, and one of the haplotypes was significantly associated with DSPS.

It is proposed that d‐serine is a novel candidate as an intrinsic ligand for the glycine site in mammalian brain, which is closely correlated with those of the N‐methyl‐d‐aspartate‐type excitatory amino acid receptor.
Embryonic Development and Postnatal Changes in Free d‐Aspartate and d‐Serine in the Human Prefrontal Cortex

The present data suggest that d‐aspartate and d‐serine might play a pivotal role in cerebral development and functions that are related to the NMDA receptor.

Selective deactivation of heteromodal association cortices, including those related to language, occurs with increasingly deep NREM sleep, which supports the recent theory that sleep is not a global, but it is a local process of the brain.
