Three Japanese patients with carbonic anhydrase II (CAII) deficiency from three families were described. The parents of one patient were unrelated, the parents of each of the other two patients were first cousins. All the patients had renal tubular acidosis, osteopetrosis, symmetrical cerebral calcification and mental retardation. They exhibited poor(More)
Irinotecan hydrochloride (CPT-11) shows marked anti-tumour activity alone and in combination with cisplatin in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). It is necessary to investigate combined-modality therapy including novel effective anti-cancer agents to improve long-term survival of patients with unresectable stage III NSCLC. A phase I/II study of concurrent(More)
Resistin, the expression of which is suppressed by thiazolidinedione treatment in adipocytes, is one of the key molecules for the tight link between adiposity and insulin resistance. Here, we show the in vivo effects of resistin on insulin sensitivity in mature mice using a cell implantation method. Resistin cDNA was transfected into 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes,(More)
We retrospectively analysed neuromuscular toxicity associated with paclitaxel 210 mg m(-2) given by 3-h infusion in 247 patients. The severity correlated significantly with total cumulative dose, but could not be predicted by the pretreatment clinical variables or by pharmacokinetic parameters. The toxicity tended to occur in early treatment cycles.
An isocentric superconducting rotating-gantry for heavy-ion therapy is being developed [1]. This rotating gantry can transport heavy ions having 430 MeV/u to an isocenter with irradiation angles of over ±180°, and is further capable of performing fast raster-scanning irradiation [2]. A layout of the beam-transport line for the compact rotating-gantry is(More)
Background. To date there have been four large randomized studies in Western countries examining the role of combining cisplatin and paclitaxel as first-line treatment for ovarian cancer. A phase II study of paclitaxel and cisplatin in Japanese patients with advanced ovarian cancer was performed to determine the objective response rate and toxicity of this(More)
Background. It has been reported that the combination of gemcitabine (LY188011; GEM) and cisplatin (CDDP) in a 4-week schedule showed a high response rate for patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but GEM could not be administered on day 15 because of increased myelosuppression in many patients. The present study was performed to evaluate the(More)
Ever growing ubiquitous environment makes overall demands for security, speed, and power consciousness in processing huge amount of multimedia data. A practical solution to meet these demands is a safety aware, high-performed, and sophisticated single chip processor. According to this scheme, we have exploited a hardware cryptography-embedded multimedia(More)
Background. SmithKline Beecham synthesized camptothecin analogs and identified nogitecan hydrochloride (topotecan) with a broad spectrum of antitumor activity and less toxicity than camptothecin. Because preclinical and overseas clinical data indicated the antitumor effect of nogitecan hydrochloride with a 5-day repeat-dose schedule, we carried out phase I(More)
