Molecular Evidence of Sexual Transmission of Ebola Virus.
TLDR
The genomes assembled from blood samples from the patient and a semen sample from the survivor were consistent with direct transmission of Ebola virus disease and provided evidence of sexual transmission of EBOV and evidence of the persistence of infective E BOV in semen for 179 days or more after the onset of EVD.
Genomic epidemiology reveals multiple introductions of Zika virus into the United States
TLDR
It is shown that at least 4 introductions, but potentially as many as 40, contributed to the outbreak in Florida and that local transmission is likely to have started in the spring of 2016—several months before its initial detection.
Evolution and Spread of Ebola Virus in Liberia, 2014-2015.
TLDR
Overall, little evidence was found for incremental adaptation of EBOV to the human host in the Liberian EVD outbreak and throughout the Western African outbreak.
Monitoring of Ebola Virus Makona Evolution through Establishment of Advanced Genomic Capability in Liberia
TLDR
The effects of EBOV evolution on diagnostic assays and therapeutic drugs appear to be low and the potential for drug discovery and development is low.
A Multicomponent Animal Virus Isolated from Mosquitoes.
TLDR
This study characterize a multicomponent RNA virus isolated from mosquitoes, designated Guaico Culex virus (GCXV), which belongs to a diverse clade of segmented viruses (Jingmenvirus) related to the prototypically unsegmented Flaviviridae.
Complete Genome Sequences of Five Zika Virus Isolates
TLDR
The complete genomes, including the 5′ and 3′ untranslated regions, of five Zika virus isolates are reported, one from the Asian lineage and four from the African lineage.
Taxonomy of the order Mononegavirales: update 2018
TLDR
The updated taxonomy of the order Mononegavirales is presented as now accepted by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) and additional taxonomic proposals that may affect the order in the near future are summarized.
First report of naturally infected Aedes aegypti with chikungunya virus genotype ECSA in the Americas
TLDR
This study describes the first identification of a naturally CHIKV-infected Ae.
SUMOylation Affects the Interferon Blocking Activity of the Influenza A Nonstructural Protein NS1 without Affecting Its Stability or Cellular Localization
TLDR
Protein cross-linking data suggest that SUMOylation may affect NS1 function by regulating the abundance of NS1 dimers and trimers in the cell and suggests that the limited amount of SUMOolation normally observed for most SUMO targets may correspond to an optimal level that maximizes the contribution of SUMoylation to protein function.
Lassa virus circulating in Liberia: a retrospective genomic characterisation.
TLDR
The large amount of novel genomic diversity of Lassa virus observed in the Liberian cases emphasises the need to match deployed diagnostic capabilities with locally circulating strains and underscores the importance of evaluating cross-lineage protection in the development of vaccines and therapeutics.
