- Chemistry, BiologyPlanta Medica
- 1 May 2000
Hederagenin was found to be an essential moiety for the exhibition of antimutagenicity and its 3-O-glycosides could be suitable for cancer treatment chemopreventive drugs.
Tectorigenin, an isoflavone of Pueraria thunbergiana Benth., induces differentiation and apoptosis in human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 cells.
- K. T. Lee, I. C. Sohn, K. Miyamoto
- Biology, ChemistryBiological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin
- 1 October 2001
Tectorigenin may be a possible therapeutic agent for leukemia and the results suggest that the isoflavone structure and 5-hydroxyl group are crucial for the cytotoxic properties and that glycosides are inactive.
Kalopanaxsaponin A is a basic saponin structure for the anti-tumor activity of hederagenin monodesmosides.
- H. J. Park, S. Kwon, J. Lee, K. H. Lee, K. Miyamoto, K. T. Lee
- Chemistry, BiologyPlanta Medica
- 1 March 2001
Results indicated that kalopanaxsaponin A has potential anti-tumor applications and it suggests that the arabinosyl moiety at C-3 blocks the activity of hederagenin and the position of the second sugar for glycoside linkage is also important for cytotoxicity.
Hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects of tectorigenin and kaikasaponin III in the streptozotocin-lnduced diabetic rat and their antioxidant activity in vitro.
- K. T. Lee, I. C. Sohn, D. H. Kim, J. W. Choi, S. Kwon, H. J. Park
- Biology, ChemistryArchives of pharmacal research
- 2000
Tectorigenin and kaikasaponin III from the flowers of Pueraria thunbergiana showed potent hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects in the streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats and protected the Vero cell line from injury by hydrogen peroxide.
Sesquiterpenes from the leaves of Ligularia fischeri var. spiciformis.
- H. J. Park, S. Kwon, K. Yoo, I. C. Sohn, K. T. Lee, H. K. Lee

It is suggested that the 3,4-dihydroxyphenylethoxy moiety of this compound contributes to cytotoxicity.
Metabolism of 6"-O-xylosyltectoridin and tectoridin by human intestinal bacteria and their hypoglycemic and in vitro cytotoxic activities.
- E. Bae, M. Han, K. T. Lee, J. W. Choi, H. J. Park, D. Kim
- Chemistry, BiologyBiological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin
- 15 December 1999
The results suggest that 6"-O-xylosyltectoridin and tectorIDin are prodrugs which can be transformed to the active agents by human intestinal bacteria.
Differentiation-inducing effect of magnolialide, a 1 beta-hydroxyeudesmanolide isolated from Cichorium intybus, on human leukemia cells.
- K. T. Lee, J. Kim, H. J. Park, K. Yoo, Y. Han, K. Miyamoto
- Biology, ChemistryBiological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin
- 1 August 2000
The content of magnolialide was shown to be highest in the leaves of Inje cultivar among the cultivars investigated in this study, and appears to induce differentiation of human leukemia HL-60 and U-937 cells to monocyte/macrophage-like cells.
Hypericin induces both differentiation and apoptosis in human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 cells.
- K. T. Lee, J. I. Kim, K. Miyamoto
- Biology, ChemistryBiological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin
- 15 December 1999
Results indicate that hypericin induces both differentiation toward monocyte/macrophage lineage and apoptosis in HL-60 cells.
