- J. King, D. F. Smith, K. Richards, P. Timson, R. Epworth, S. Wright
- Physics
- 1 April 1987
The principles of operation and performance of a coherent OTDR system designed for use at 1.3 μm are given and its realization as a robust field-portable instrument with a specified performance of better than 24-dB one-way range, and 0.2-dB fault loss resolution is presented.

- 27 July 2010
Solar observations are performed over an extended field of view and the isoplanatic patch over which conventional adaptive optics (AO) provides diffraction limited resolution is a severe limitation.…
Progress with solar multi-conjugate adaptive optics at NSO
- T. Rimmele, K. Richards, J. Roche, S. Hegwer, A. Tritschler
- PhysicsSPIE Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation
- 14 June 2006
We have implemented a MCAO experiment at the Dunn Solar Telescope. The MCAO system uses 2 deformable mirrors, one conjugated to the telescope entrance pupil and other one conjugated to a layer in the…
Advanced Technology Solar Telescope: a progress report
- J. Wagner, T. Rimmele, M. Warner
- PhysicsSPIE Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation
- 1 June 2006
The four-meter Advanced Technology Solar Telescope (ATST) will be the most powerful solar telescope and the world's leading resource for studying solar magnetism that controls the solar wind, flares,…

- C. Denker, A. Tritschler, T. Rimmele, K. Richards, S. Hegwer, F. Wöger
- Physics
- 16 February 2007
In 2004 January, the Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO) was equipped with a high‐order adaptive optics (AO) system built in collaboration with the National Solar Observatory (NSO) at Sacramento Peak.…
Coherent optical receiver for 680 Mbit/s using phase diversity
- A. W. Davis, S. Wright, M. Pettitt, J. King, K. Richards
- Physics
- 2 January 1986
A coherent optical receiver using a multiport optical coupler to provide phase diversity is described. By this means, only homodyne bandwidth is required in the signal processing, but with tolerances…
