A dusty, normal galaxy in the epoch of reionization
- D. Watson, L. Christensen, K. Knudsen, J. Richard, A. Gallazzi, M. Michałowski
- PhysicsNature
- 27 February 2015
Thermal dust emission from an archetypal early Universe star-forming galaxy, A1689-zD1, is reported, which has a large stellar mass and is heavily enriched in dust, with a dust-to-gas ratio close to that of the Milky Way.
STAR FORMATION AND GAS KINEMATICS OF QUASAR HOST GALAXIES AT z ∼ 6: NEW INSIGHTS FROM ALMA
- Ran Wang, J. Wagg, Linhua Jiang
- Physics
- 18 February 2013
We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations of the [C ii] 158 μm fine structure line and dust continuum emission from the host galaxies of five redshift 6 quasars. We…
Combining Strong and Weak Gravitational Lensing in Abell 1689
- M. Limousin, J. Richard, K. Knudsen
- Physics
- 6 December 2006
We present a reconstruction of the mass distribution of galaxy cluster Abell 1689 at z = 0.18 using detected strong lensing features from deep ACS observations and extensive ground based…
AN ALMA SURVEY OF SUBMILLIMETER GALAXIES IN THE EXTENDED CHANDRA DEEP FIELD SOUTH: SOURCE CATALOG AND MULTIPLICITY
We present an Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) Cycle 0 survey of 126 submillimeter sources from the LABOCA ECDFS Submillimeter Survey (LESS). Our 870 μm survey with ALMA (ALESS)…
Stellar Populations and Kinematics of Red Galaxies at z > 2: Implications for the Formation of Massive Galaxies
- P. V. van Dokkum, M. Franx, S. Wuyts
- Physics
- 23 April 2004
We recently identified a substantial population of galaxies at z > 2 with comparatively red rest-frame optical colors. These distant red galaxies (DRGs) are efficiently selected by the simple…
An ALMA survey of submillimetre galaxies in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South: high-resolution 870 μm source counts
- A. Karim, M. Swinbank, Leiden
- Physics, Geology
- 30 September 2012
We report the first counts of faint submillimetre galaxies (SMGs) in the 870-mu m band derived from arcsecond-resolution observations with the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA). We have used ALMA…
An ALMA survey of sub-millimetre Galaxies in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South: the far-infrared properties of SMGs
- M. Swinbank, J. Simpson, Leiden
- Physics
- 23 October 2013
We exploit Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) 870 mu m observations of sub-millimetre sources in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South to investigate the far-infrared properties of high-redshift…
Testing the evolutionary link between submillimetre galaxies and quasars: CO observations of QSOs at z∼ 2
- K. Coppin, M. Swinbank, Universit'e PierreMarie Curie
- Physics
- 3 June 2008
We have used the IRAM Plateau de Bure millimeter interferometer and the UKIRT 1– 5µm Imager Spectrometer (UIST) to test the connection between the major phases of spheroid growth and nuclear…
A submillimetre galaxy at z = 4.76 in the LABOCA survey of the Extended Chandra Deep Field-South
We report on the identification of the highest redshift submillimetre-selected source currently known LESS J033229.4−275619. This source was detected in the Large Apex Bolometer Camera (LABOCA)…
[C II] emission in z ~ 6 strongly lensed, star-forming galaxies
- K. Knudsen, J. Richard, L. Lindroos
- Physics
- 7 March 2016
The far-infrared fine-structure line [C II] at 1900.5 GHz is known to be one of the brightest cooling lines in local galaxies, and therefore it has been suggested to be an efficient tracer for star…
