Thyroxine-binding globulin: investigation of microheterogeneity.
TLDR
Preparations of T4-binding globulin (TBG) from human serum was performed using only two affinity chromatography steps and microheterogeneity of TBG was detected after IEF on polyacrylamide gel plates by immunofixation, suggesting differences in NANA content and that variations in TBG patterns in native sera may reflect altered TBG synthesis or degradation.
Hypertrophy and hyperplasia during goitre growth and involution in rats--separate bioeffects of TSH and iodine.
TLDR
It is concluded that TSH mainly induces hypertrophy, whereas thyroid hyperplasia is mainly regulated by the intracellular iodine content.
Effects of obesity, total fasting and re-alimentation on L-thyroxine (T4), 3,5,3'-L-triiodothyronine (T3), 3,3',5'-L-triiodothyronine (rT3), thyroxine binding globulin (TBG), cortisol, thyrotrophin,
TLDR
There is no evidence for primary hypothyroidism in obese patients during prolonged fasting and re-alimentation and the magnitude of the observed decreases does not suggest any clinically relevant deficiencies in serum proteins.
Isolation, characterization and radioimmunoassay of corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG) in human serum -- clinical significance and comparison to thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG).
TLDR
In pregnancy and under oestrogen treatment of women and men, CBG was demonstrated to be the more distinct indicator of oestrogensic activity as compared with TBG, whereas the sensitivity of TBG was more pronounced to supposedly antioestrogenic substances like Danazol, and in severe disease.
Involvement of cyclic AMP, iodide and metabolites of arachidonic acid in the regulation of cell proliferation of isolated porcine thyroid follicles
TLDR
Data clearly show that bovine TSH is not a growth factor for isolated thyroid cells in vitro, and thyroid cell proliferation, induced by FCS, EGF and insulin is under negative control of cyclic AMP.
Recurrent goiter, hyperthyroidism, galactorrhea and amenorrhea due to a thyrotropin and prolactin-producing pituitary tumor.
TLDR
The patient had a pituitary tumor with an overproduction of thyrotropin and prolactin, and transsphenoidal hypophysectomy, TSH and PRL were below normal and the patient development panhypopituitarism.
Preparation of porcine thyroid follicles with preserved polarity: functional and morphological properties in comparison to inside-out follicles
TLDR
The preparation method rather than the culture condition is responsible for the preservation of cell polarity of isolated thyroid follicles in the system and the TSH receptor and the beta-adrenergic receptor appear to be exclusively located at the basal membrane of follicular cells.
Total bilirubin measurement by photometry on a blood gas analyzer: potential for use in neonatal testing at the point of care.
TLDR
A new method that uses a blood gas analyzer with multiple-wavelength photometry to determine total bilirubin concentrations in whole blood from jaundiced and nonjaundiced neonates is evaluated and the results are compared with a standard clinical chemistry procedure for total bilIRubin measurement in plasma.
