OPTIMIZING CHEMOTHERAPY IN AN HIV MODEL
- K. Fister, S. Lenhart, J. McNally
- Mathematics
- 4 December 1998
We examine an ordinary dierential system modeling the interaction of the HIV virus and the immune system of the human body. The optimal control representsapercentageeect…
Optimal Control Applied to Cell-Cycle-Specific Cancer Chemotherapy
- J. Panetta, K. Fister
- MathematicsSIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics
- 1 February 2000
This work designs the control functional to maximize both the bone marrow mass and the dose over the treatment interval, and describes the optimal control in terms of the solutions to the optimality system, which is the state system coupled with the adjoint system.
Chemotherapy for tumors: an analysis of the dynamics and a study of quadratic and linear optimal controls.

OPTIMAL CONTROL OF MIXED IMMUNOTHERAPY AND CHEMOTHERAPY OF TUMORS
The qualitative nature of the results indicates that chemotherapy is the dominant intervention with TIL interacting in a complementary fashion with the chemotherapy, however, within the optimal control context, the interleukin-2 treatment does not become activated for the estimated parameter ranges.
Modeling Optimal Intervention Strategies for Cholera
- Rachael L. Miller Neilan, E. Schaefer, H. Gaff, K. Fister, S. Lenhart
- MedicineBulletin of Mathematical Biology
- 4 March 2010
A mathematical model is formulated to include essential components such as a hyperinfectious, short-lived bacterial state, a separate class for mild human infections, and waning disease immunity to provide a framework for designing cost-effective strategies for diseases with multiple intervention methods.
OPTIMAL CONTROL APPLIED TO IMMUNOTHERAPY
- Thalya Burden, J. Ernstberger, K. Fister
- Mathematics
- 1 November 2003
We investigate a mathematical model for the dynamics between tumor
cells, immune-effector cells, and the cytokine interleukin-2
(IL-2). In order to better determine under what circumstances the …
Mathematics instruction and the tablet PC
- K. Fister, Maeve L. McCarthy
- Computer Science
- 27 March 2008
The use of tablet PCs in teaching is a relatively new phenomenon and two of the most important features of the tablet PC are annotation and wireless communication.
Mathematical model creation for cancer chemo-immunotherapy
- L. Pillis, K. Fister, Benjamin Preskill
- Biology, Medicine
- 3 September 2009
The model of de Pillisetal is updated and the potential patient-specific efficacy of IL-2 remains open, with new NK and tumour antigen-activated CD8 þ T-cell count equilibrium values and the modified model is modified to allow for endogenous IL- 2 production,IL-2-stimulated NK cell proliferation and IL-1-dependent CD8 €cell self-regulations.

- J. Panetta, K. Fister
- BiologySIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics
- 2003
This work investigates the qualitative differences between three different cell-kill models: log- kill hypo, log-kill hypo and log-killing hypo.
