The taxonomic position of unidentified group 6 of Bacillus circulans as described by Nakamura and Swezey (L.K. Nakamura and J. Swezey, Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol. 33:46-52, 1983) was determined, and the taxonomy of Paenibacillus amylolyticus was reexamined. The results of PCR amplification of a 16S rRNA gene fragment with a specific primer and comparative(More)
Reclassification of Pseudomonas acidovorans den Dooren de Jong 1926 and Pseudomonas testosteroni Marcus and Talalay 1956 as Comamonas acidovorans comb. nov. and Comamonas testostersni We examined 36 strains of Pseudomonas acidovorans, Pseudomonas testosteroni, and Comamonas terrigena on the basis of phenotypic characters, chemotaxonomic characters, and(More)
Five strains of Gram-positive, endospore-forming, moderately halotolerant bacteria were studied taxonomically. Four were isolated from Vietnamese fish sauce and one from the Gulf of Mexico. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that these strains clustered within the radiation of the genus Bacillus but separately from recognized(More)
An autopsy case of central pontine and extrapontine myelinolysis following rapid correction of hyponatremia is reported. Hyponatremia was induced by massive devastation of adrenal cortex due to tuberculosis. Severe hyponatremia (approximately 100 mEq/l of serum sodium level) was rapidly corrected by infusion of hypertonic saline solution within two days.(More)
Five strains received as Gluconobacter cerinus and Gluconobacter asaii were examined for DNA base composition, DNA–DNA similarity, 16S rRNA gene sequences and phenotypic characteristics, including acid production from ethanol, growth on L-arabitol and meso-ribitol and requirement for nicotinic acid. The five strains showed DNA base compositions ranging from(More)
