BACKGROUND Both statins and ezetimibe lower LDL-C, but ezetimibe's effect on atherosclerosis is controversial. We hypothesized that lowering LDL-C cholesterol by adding ezetimibe to statin therapy would regress atherosclerosis measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the superficial femoral artery (SFA) in peripheral arterial disease (PAD). METHODS(More)
11 patients with plasma cell leukaemia (PCL) are reported. Diagnostic clinical, haematological, immunological, biochemical and electron microscopical (TEM) data were analysed and compared to the largest series of PCL cases reported in the literature. Special attention was paid to four facets of this disease: (a) the clinical picture at admission; (b) the(More)
Clinicians who deal with numerous cases of breast cancer are aware of the fact that there is some relationship between childbearing and breast cancer, and also that nulliparous women are probably more prone to breast cancer than their parous sister. however, a relationship between breast feeding and breast cancer is not certain. This is a preliminary(More)
OBJECTIVES We aimed to investigate the pathophysiology of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) by examining magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopic (MRS) correlates of functional capacity. BACKGROUND Despite the high prevalence, morbidity, and cost of PAD, its pathophysiology is incompletely understood. METHODS Eighty-five patients (age 68 +/-(More)
We assessed the prevalence of autoantibodies in women with silicone implants and controls. Five hundred consecutive patients with silicone implants, 25 age-matched normal women, 25 women with silicone implants and no rheumatic symptoms, and 100 women with fibromyalgia were tested. Immunofluorescence antinuclear antibodies (ANA) were performed using HEp-2(More)
Systolic and mean pressure gradients across internal carotid stenoses were measured at the time of carotid endarterectomy in the arteries of 90 patients, all of whom underwent angiography. Eighty-two of these patients also had pulsed Doppler ultrasonic arteriography with real-time spectrum analysis. There were 71 (79%) high grade stenoses of greater than(More)
A case of postmenopausal endometriosis is presented. Symptoms started 14 years after total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oöphorectomy for endometriosis following oestrogen administration. The disease had a protracted course and eventually responded well to radiotherapy. Certain aspects of postmenopausal endometriosis are discussed.
We hypothesized that percutaneous intervention in the affected lower extremity artery would improve calf muscle perfusion and cellular metabolism in patients with claudication and peripheral artery disease (PAD) as measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy (MRS). Ten patients with symptomatic PAD (mean ± SD: age 57 ± 9 years;(More)
