In this paper, the authors describe how, in order to develop methods of electrical pulse generation for the "Baikal" MJ scale pulse power generator, the "Mol" test-bed with an energy storage of 18 MJ is currently under construction.

Experimental results of Microsecond Plasma Current Interrupting Switch (PCIS) investigations are reported in the paper. Basic PCIS parameters are determined and operating mechanism is investigated. Recommendations for PCIS usage in high power multi-MJ generators are given.
