This study describes comprehensive polling of transcription start and termination sites and analysis of previously unidentified full-length complementary DNAs derived from the mouse genome. We identify the 5' and 3' boundaries of 181,047 transcripts with extensive variation in transcripts arising from alternative promoter usage, splicing, and(More)
Recombinant tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is an antitumor protein that is in clinical trials as a potential anticancer therapy but suffers from drug properties that may limit efficacy such as short serum half-life, stability, cost, and biodistribution, particularly with respect to the brain. To overcome such limitations, we(More)
Thirty-seven children with second and third degree burns dressed with amnion were compared to seventy-three children treated with Furacin (Eaton Labs, Norwich, N.Y.) dressing. Amnion was found to be as easy to use as Furacin. Fewer split thickness skin grafts were needed in amnion treated children and these patients required fewer days of hospitalization.(More)
Self-renewing colorectal cancer stem/progenitor cells (CSC) contribute to tumor maintenance and resistance to therapy. Therapeutic targeting of CSCs could improve treatment response and prolong patient survival. ONC201/TIC10 is a first-in-class antitumor agent that induces TRAIL pathway–mediated cell death in cancer cells without observed toxicity. We have(More)
The clinical challenge posed by p53 abnormalities in hematological malignancies requires therapeutic strategies other than standard genotoxic chemotherapies. ONC201 is a first-in-class small molecule that activates p53-independent apoptosis, has a benign safety profile, and is in early clinical trials. We found that ONC201 caused p53-independent apoptosis(More)
The records of 583 children who were treated for intussusception at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo in the period 1930-1985 were reviewed. Following a change in management in 1970 from operative treatment to hydrostatic reduction of the intussusception by barium enema, two main groups are defined. In earlier years 95% of patients underwent operative(More)
We use a one-dimensional model, forced with realistic meteorological measurements, to determine to first order the sensitivity of summer surface water temperature, heat content, and vertical stratification scale to three forcing variables: air temperature, wind speed, and previous winter ice cover, all three of which have exhibited long-term trends over the(More)
PURPOSE The regional pediatric trauma center in Buffalo, NY, has been active in pediatric injury prevention programs, including community education and distribution of bicycle helmets, since 1990. Since June 1, 1994, the use of bicycle safety helmets for children under 14 years of age has been mandated by a state law in New York. The authors undertook this(More)
ONC201 (also called TIC10) is a small molecule that inactivates the cell proliferation- and cell survival-promoting kinases Akt and ERK and induces cell death through the proapoptotic protein TRAIL. ONC201 is currently in early-phase clinical testing for various malignancies. We found through gene expression and protein analyses that ONC201 triggered an(More)
