PURPOSE To test potential protection by ICRF-187 against cumulative doxorubicin-dose-related cardiac toxicity, we conducted a randomized clinical trial in 150 women with advanced breast cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients received fluorouracil (5FU) 500 mg/m2, doxorubicin 50 mg/m2, and cyclophosphamide 500 mg/m2 every 21 days intravenously (IV) (control(More)
To enhance the information provided by computed tomography (CT) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) performed with radiolabeled, anti-carcinoembryonic antigen monoclonal antibody (MoAb), the authors performed fusion of these types of images from eight subjects with suspected colorectal adenocarcinoma. Section thickness and pixel size of(More)
Medical educators strive to promote the development of a sound professional identity in learners, yet it is challenging to design, implement, and sustain fair and meaningful assessments of professionalism to accomplish this goal. The authors developed and implemented a program built around a Web-based Professional Development Portfolio (PDP) to assess and(More)
Eighty-six [67Ga]citrate chest scans were performed in 71 adult patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Forty-five of these patients also had Kaposi's sarcoma. Only 29 of 57 abnormal scans were correlated with abnormal chest radiographs. Chest radiographs were negative for 27 scans and unavailable for one. Several scan patterns were seen.(More)
Software that has been developed to automate and standardize comparison of 3D images is discussed. The major approaches to image registration are examined. The authors' registration and reconstruction software is described. Studies carried out to determine the relative accuracy of the present registration methods are reported. The main goal of the authors(More)
Studies in animals suggest that the bispiperazinedione ICRF-187 can prevent the development of dose-related doxorubicin-induced cardiac toxicity. In a randomized trial in 92 women with advanced breast cancer, we compared treatment with fluorouracil, doxorubicin, and cyclophosphamide (FDC), given every 21 days, with the same regimen preceded by(More)
Records were reviewed for all patients who underwent primary treatment for adenocarcinoma of the stomach at two UCLA hospitals between 1956 and 1975. Division of the data into two, ten-year time periods reveals a pattern of unchanging presentation and pathologic characteristics which probably accounts for the unaltered response to operative therapy. The(More)
Correlation of PET or SPECT functional with CT or MRI anatomic transaxial images often enhances the information available on these studies. Careful registration of images from two types of studies may be used to identify a structure containing to a PET or SPECT abnormality or to evaluate the functional or metabolic characteristics of an abnormal or(More)
