The role and the potential benefit, if any, of pelvic lymphadenectomy in prostate cancer are still controversially discussed. It is generally accepted that PLND at time of radical prostatectomy is the only reliable diagnostic procedure to achieve as much individual histological staging information as possible to trigger postoperative adjuvant management.(More)
UNLABELLED What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? SXR and MDR1 are known as responsible for chemo and radiotherapy resistance in some cancers, like kidney cancer (MDR1). Invasive bladder cancer is an aggressive disease, with different behaviour upon its tumoral stage, and also within the same tumoral stage, therefore molecular markers are(More)
INTRODUCTION Steroid and Xenobiotic Receptor (SXR) has demonstrated its activation by numerous drugs, including cytochrome P450 potent inducers like rifampicina or cotrimazol. The role of SXR is well known, and lies regulating in a positive manner cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) transcription and the multidrug resistance gene (MDR1), it's considered a key in(More)
OBJECTIVES To analyze surgical complications in kidney transplantation and their influence on graft survival. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective analysis was made of the early and late surgical complications occurring in 216 consecutive kidney transplants performed at our institution and their influence on graft survival. RESULTS At least one(More)
A case of an infiltrating bladder tumor is reported. The pathology was treated by radical cistectomy and orthotopic neo-bladder. After treatment we identified disease in the upper urinary tract and inside the ileal neo-bladder. This case show us the high relapse index of this kind of tumours.
The standard therapy for renal carcinoma is radical surgery. When dealing with single, under 4 cm tumors and in the case of renal tumors in single-kidney patients, the choice therapy is nephrectomy or partial nephrectomy. Response rates in metastatic renal carcinoma using the various immune therapy approaches available range from 15 to 35%, responses being(More)
INTRODUCTION Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma, described in 1985 is a type of renal carcinoma which is relatively uncommon (5%). Although the majority of studies published suggest a more favourable prognosis, conclusive evidence does not exist. In this study we present the clinical and ultrastructural characteristics and particularly the prognoses of 15(More)
INTRODUCTION In 2007 in Spain 43% of donors were older than 60 years. This produces a worse graft quality and probably a worse survival. OBJECTIVE Our objective is to analyze the influence of donor age on graft survival. MATERIAL AND METHODS We analyze retrospectively 216 renal consecutive transplants realized between 2000 and 2008. A univaried and(More)
OBJECTIVES Analysis in T1-T2 prostate cancer of the following: a) Whether there is a relationship between Ki67 and p53 over-expression, and clinico-pathological variables. b) Whether that expression influences on progression free survival. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study included 68 patients diagnosed with T1-T2 prostate cancer undergoing radical(More)
We report a case of squamous cell carcinoma of the ureter with periureteral infiltration. Three years following radical surgery, no evidence of tumor progression has been observed. Only 1% to 1.6% of urothelial tumors of the upper urinary tract are purely squamous cell tumors. This tumor type carries a poor prognosis. Currently, the best results can be(More)
