Large‐scale phytogeographical patterns in East Asia in relation to latitudinal and climatic gradients
Aim This paper aims at determining how different floristic elements (e.g. cosmopolitan, tropical, and temperate) change with latitude and major climate factors, and how latitude affects the floristicExpand
Human corneal endothelial cells employ phosphorylation of p27(Kip1) at both Ser10 and Thr187 sites for FGF-2-mediated cell proliferation via PI 3-kinase.
FGF-2 stimulates proliferation of hCECs through PI 3-kinase and its downstream target ERK1/2 pathways and linear signal transduction significantly downregulates p27 through its phosphorylation at both Ser10 and Thr187 sites mediated by KIS and Cdc25A, respectively. Expand
Tree growth and competition in a post-logging Quercus mongolica forest on Mt. Sobaek, South Korea
The spatio-temporal variations in establishment, growth, size inequality, and mode of competition among trees in a 50-year-old post-logging Quercus mongolica-dominated stand in South Korea are examined. Expand
Phytosociology of subalpine coniferous forests in Korea I. Syntaxonomical interpretation
In phytosociological studies of Korean subalpine confierous forests of the class Vaccinio-Piceetea Br.-Bl. 1939, new two alliances are described. They are Abieti nephrolepidis-Piceion jezoensis ofExpand
Environmental correlates of plant diversity in Korean temperate forests
Abstract Mountainous areas of the Korean Peninsula are among the biodiversity hotspots of the world's temperate forests. Understanding patterns in spatial distribution of their species richnessExpand
Vegetation Succession on River Sediments along the Nakdong River, South Korea
We investigated successional vegetation on river sediments along the Nakdong River in South Korea at the time when a river regulation project, named the Four River Project, was launched. We sampledExpand
Phytogeography of Northeast Asia
Northeast Asia as defined in this study includes the Russian Far East, Northeast China, the northern part of the Korean Peninsula, and Hokkaido Island (Japan). We determined the species richness ofExpand
Induction of FGF-2 synthesis by IL-1beta in aqueous humor through P13-kinase and p38 in rabbit corneal endothelium.
Data suggest that after transcorneal freezing, IL-1beta released by PMNs into the aqueous humor stimulates FGF-2 synthesis in corneal endothelium via PI3-kinase and p38. Expand
Plant Diversity Changes during the Postglacial in East Asia: Insights from Forest Refugia on Halla Volcano, Jeju Island
It is proposed that the late-glacial open-canopy conifer forests in southern part of Korean Peninsula were rich in vascular plants, in particular of heliophilous herbs, whose dramatic decline was caused by the early Holocene invasion of dwarf bamboo into the understory of Quercus forests, followed by mid-Holocene expansion of strongly shading trees such as maple and hornbeam.
