For some antenna applications, radiation is required to be of narrow beam in one plane and to conform to a specified shape in the perpendicular plane. A common example of such an antenna is found in airborne navigational systems which require a cosecant-squared elevation radiation pattern and a narrow beam azimuth pattern.
