—The first integrated multiwavelength laser based on an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) fabricated on a silicon-on-insulator wafer is presented. It consists of Fabry–Perot cavities integrated with hybrid silicon amplifiers and an intracavity filter in the form of an AWG with a channel spacing of 360 GHz. Four-channel lasing operation is shown. Single-sided… (More)
INTRODUCTION Few studies have examined the transitions of smokers in the general population through multiple periods of daily, occasional smoking, or abstinence over time. Transitions from daily to occasional smoking are particularly of interest as these may be steps toward cessation. METHODS The Ontario Tobacco Survey panel study followed 4,355 baseline… (More)
—Communications interconnects and networks will continue to play a large role in contributing to the global carbon footprint, especially in data center and cloud-computing applications exponential growth in capacity. Key to maximizing the benefits of photonics technology is highly functional, lower power, and large-scale photonics integration. In this… (More)
Coarse-grained elastic network models have been successful in determining functionally relevant collective motions. The level of coarse-graining, however, has usually focused on the level of one point per residue. In this work, we compare the applicability of elastic network models over a broader range of representational scales. We apply normal mode… (More)
The availability of low-cost cigarettes undermines tobacco con-trol's most effective measure to reduce smoking prevalence: keeping cigarette prices high by raising tobacco taxes. 1 The discount cigarette market share has grown considerably since 2003, 2 with discount cigarettes selling for $10-$15 less per carton than premium brands. Contraband cigarettes –… (More)
A monolithic 25 Gbaud DQPSK receiver based on delay interferometers and balanced detection was fabricated on hybrid silicon platform. We report preliminary results regarding the characterization of the InGaAs p-in photodetectors and the delay interferometer.
— We demonstrate the design, fabrication, and characterization of a 4-bit tunable delay in an ultra-low-loss Si 3 N 4 planar platform. Temporal delays up to 12.35 ns with resolution of 0.85 ns are measured, for a total of 2.407 meters of propagation length. The TE waveguide propagation loss is measured to be (1.01 ± 0.06) dB/m at a wavelength of 1550 nm… (More)
We demonstrate a monolithically integrated dual-quadrature coherent receiver with 30nm widely-tunable SG-DBR local oscillator, signal input SOAs, a 90° optical hybrid and four 10GHz photodetectors. We demonstrate recovered constellations from 10Gbaud NRZ-BPSK and NRZ-QPSK signals at four different wavelengths.
We demonstrate all-optical 2R regeneration with a 90° optical hybrid and integrated MZI-SOA pairs for 10 Gb/s BPSK and 20 Gb/s QPSK with negative power penalty. Power penalty and OSNR improvements of 7 dB and 5 dB are shown with additive ASE noise.
Demonstration of burst mode assembly, detection, and recovery of 100MbE frames as 40Gb/s optical packets enabling scalable interoperability with legacy networks. End-to-end adaptation with <10-4 packet loss over an 18dB range of received power is demonstrated. 1. Introduction Optical packet switching (OPS) and optical label switching (OLS) are potential… (More)
