Modulated proton transport plays significant roles in biological processes such as ATP synthesis as well as in technologically important applications including, for example, hydrogen fuel cells. The state-of-the-art proton-exchange membrane is the sulphonated tetrafluoroethylene copolymer Nafion developed by DuPont in the late 1960s, with a high proton(More)
Study Design Systematic review. Background Despite improvements in self-reported symptoms and perceived functional ability after total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA), it is unclear whether changes in objectively measured physical activity (PA) occur after surgery. Objective To determine if objectively measured PA increases after(More)
Our understanding of age-related changes to foot function during walking has mainly been based on plantar pressure measurements, with little information on differences in foot kinematics between young and older adults. The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in foot kinematics between young and older adults during walking using a(More)
A heterobimetallic complex with the first unsupported bond between an actinide and a group 13 element, (CpSiMe3)3U-AlCp* (Cp* = C5Me5) (1), was synthesized by reaction of (CpSiMe3)3U and 1/4(Cp*Al)4 in toluene. Density functional theory calculations indicate that the U-Al bond exhibits some covalent character resulting from a Cp*Al-->U charge-transfer.
INTRODUCTION The implication of high peak plantar pressure on foot pathology in individuals both with and without diabetes has been recognized. The aim of this study was to investigate and clarify the relationship between increasing body mass and peak and mean plantar pressure in an asymptomatic adult population during walking. METHODS Thirty adults(More)
As a way to control the surface properties of nanowires and nanotubes, we present a method for growing polymer from the surface of silicon/silica core/shell nanowires. After modification of nanowire surfaces with polymer initiators, Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP) was used to grow methacrylate polymer chains from the surface. The resulting(More)
A series of divalent first row triflate complexes supported by the ligand tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (TPA) have been investigated as oxygen reduction catalysts for fuel cell applications. [(TPA)M(2+)](n+) (M = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu) derivatives were synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography, cyclic voltammetry, NMR spectroscopy, magnetic(More)
