A heretofore unreported spine, which protrudes into the pituitary fossa, has been described and recorded. Complete and incomplete 'sella bridges', their angle formations with the planes of the head, dimensions and sutures have been detailed and their origin postulated. The development and formation of the carotico-clinoid foramina have been exhibited and… (More)
Length, diameter and anastomoses of the nervus vagus and its ganglion inferius were measured 44 halved heads. On the average, 8.65 fiber bundles of the vagus nerve leave the retro-olivary area. In the area of the jugular foramen is the near superior ganglion of the 10th cranial nerve. In this area were found 1.48 (mean value) anastomoses with the 9th… (More)
Seventy-one Caucasian orbits (36 right, 35 left) were studied by dissection. The diameter of the ophthalmic a. (2 mm from the origin) was 1.54 ± 0.04 mm (male) and 1.31 ± 0.05 mm (female). In individual cases, there were no significant differences in vessel diameter between the right and left sides but, differences in vessel diameter between males and… (More)
Occurrence, width and course of the radicular arteries and veins between the occiput and L3 level of the spinal cord were described. The diameter of the anterior spinal, posterior spinal, and posterolateral arteries, was also measured on the segments C2 to C6 and T2 to T10, and L2. Likewise the anterior and posterior spinal veins and the anterolateral and… (More)
On 50 human brains the width and course of the veins on the surface of the mesencephalon were determined. The basal vein, for example, has an inside diameter of 1.70 (0.91-2.88) mm. A lateral mesencephalic vein could be demonstrated in 70% of the cases, the width being 0.81 (0.29-1.78) mm. A posterior mesencephalic vein was found in 51%, measuring 0.57… (More)
The mean length of the fifth nerve in the posterior fossa is 13.38 mm (medial portion) and 12.01 mm (lateral portion). Measurements of the triangular part of the trigeminal nerve, its branches and its central (vulnerable) part, are also described.
The postnatal increase of the paramedian distances of the medial and lateral plate of the pterygoid process, its elongation and also the position of the plates to the median sagittal plane were investigated. Moreover the development of height and width of the pyramidal process and the scaphoid fossa were surveyed.
Our material consisted of 100 adult skulls and 50 adult half-head sections where the posterior opening of the pterygopalatinate fossa and the position of the pterygopalatinate ganglion were investigated. The report contains the following specifics: 1. Course and contents of the pterygoidal canal as well as the topographical relations of the canal to the… (More)
Different measurements of the height and oblique landmarks are given. There are included the shape of the tubercula and the distances to landmarks and the cornua. On the cricoid cartilage, there are measured the height of arcus and lamina and its antero-posterior length, also the distances to the inferior horn, the inferior tubercle, and the… (More)
The olfactory bulb has a length of 12.27 mm whereas the length of the olfactory tract from the beginning to where it crosses the optic nerve is 21.2 mm (mean). The intracranial portion of the optic nerve is 10.3 mm long. From the brain stem to its dural exit the III nerve measures 18.82 mm, and the IV nerve 32.65 mm. The range of variation in the lengths of… (More)
