Isolation, Diversity, and Antimicrobial Activity of Rare Actinobacteria from Medicinal Plants of Tropical Rain Forests in Xishuangbanna, China
The results confirm that the medicinal plants of Xishuangbanna represent an extremely rich reservoir for the isolation of a significant diversity of actinobacteria, including novel species, that are potential sources for the discovery of biologically active compounds.
Micrococcus yunnanensis sp. nov., a novel actinobacterium isolated from surface-sterilized Polyspora axillaris roots.
- Guo-Zhen Zhao, Jie Li, Wenjun Li
- BiologyInternational Journal of Systematic and…
- 1 October 2009
Chemotaxonomic data gathered for peptidoglycan type, menaquinones, phospholipids and fatty acids strongly supported the classification of this strain within the genus Micrococcus, and DNA-DNA hybridization studies suggested that the novel strain represents a separate genomic species.
Plantactinospora mayteni gen. nov., sp. nov., a member of the family Micromonosporaceae.
A novel Gram-positive, aerobic, spore-forming, endophytic actinomycete isolated from the roots of Maytenus austroyunnanensis plants collected from tropical rainforest in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, south-west China, is considered to represent a novel species of a new genus within the family Micromonosporaceae.

- Zhimao Mai, Jian Yang, X. Tian, Jie Li, Si Zhang
- BiologyApplied Biochemistry and Biotechnology
- 15 January 2013
The gene BglNH encoding a β-glucosidase was cloned from a marine streptomycete and the recombinant enzyme (r-BglNH) was purified and displayed the typical salt-tolerant and glucose-enhanced characteristics.
Dietzia schimae sp. nov. and Dietzia cercidiphylli sp. nov., from surface-sterilized plant tissues.
- Jie Li, Guo-Zhen Zhao, Wenjun Li
- BiologyInternational Journal of Systematic and…
- 1 November 2008
Two actinobacterial strains were isolated from surface-sterilized plant tissues collected from Yunnan Province, south-west China, and their taxonomic positions were determined by using a polyphasic approach on the basis of their phenotypic and phylogenetic distinctiveness.
Nonomuraea rhizophila sp. nov., an actinomycete isolated from rhizosphere soil.
- Guo-Zhen Zhao, Jie Li, Hai-Yu Huang, Wen-Yong Zhu, Lihua Xu, Wenjun Li
- BiologyInternational Journal of Systematic and…
- 1 September 2011
Key morphological, physiological and chemotaxonomic characteristics of strain YIM 67092(T), a novel actinomycete isolated from rhizosphere soil of the perennial vine Tripterygium wilfordii Hook, were congruent with the description of the genus Nonomuraea.

- BiologyEnvironmental Microbiology Reports
- 1 October 2012
This study confirms abundant endophytic actinobacterial consortium in tropical rainforest native plant and suggests that this special habitat represents an underexplored reservoir of diverse and novel actinOBacteria of potential interest for bioactive compounds discovery.
Jiangella alba sp. nov., an endophytic actinomycete isolated from the stem of Maytenus austroyunnanensis.
- S. Qin, Guo-Zhen Zhao, Jie Li, Wen-Yong Zhu, Lihua Xu, Wenjun Li
- BiologyInternational Journal of Systematic and…
- 1 September 2009
Strain YIM 61503T was phenotypically distinct from recognized Jiangella species and was shown to belong to a separate genomic species based on DNA-DNA hybridization results, and is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Jiangeella.
Highly Heterogeneous Bacterial Communities Associated with the South China Sea Reef Corals Porites lutea, Galaxea fascicularis and Acropora millepora
- Jie Li, Qi Chen, Lijuan Long
- Environmental Science, BiologyPLoS ONE
- 7 August 2013
Analysis of pyrosequencing libraries showed that bacterial communities associated with the three coral species were more diverse than previous estimates based on corals from the Caribbean Sea, Indo-Pacific reefs and the Red Sea, and that corals may associate with microbes in terms of similar function, rather than identical species.
Nonomuraea antimicrobica sp. nov., an endophytic actinomycete isolated from a leaf of Maytenus austroyunnanensis.
