UNLABELLED 18F-fluoro-deoxy-glucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography-scan (PET/CT) is used increasingly for detection of cancer. Precise diagnostic assessment of tumour extension in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is of critical importance for ensuring that patients receive proper treatment. Preliminary studies have shown(More)
This study examined the in vitro percutaneous penetration of five pesticides covering a wide range of solubilities and different molecular weights, which allowed discussion of penetration of single pesticides as well as a comparison between penetration characteristics of different pesticides. The five pesticides were the fungicides methiocarb, pirimicarb(More)
Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid that is increasingly being used in transdermal drug delivery systems. The target organ concentration of a drug administered dermally will depend on the rate of dermal absorption and the systemic elimination. We have studied the intra- and interindividual variation in dermal penetration of fentanyl in an in vitro model(More)
Protease nexin-1 (PN-1) belongs to the serpin family of serine protease inhibitors. It is the phylogenetically closest relative of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1). Whilst there are numerous studies of the occurrence and functions of PAI-1 in cancer, a possible tumour biological role of PN-1 has been almost totally neglected. We have now compared(More)
Protective gloves are used to reduce dermal exposure when managing chemical exposures at the work place. Different glove materials may offer different degrees of protection. The present study combined the traditional ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) model with the Franz diffusion cell to evaluate overall penetration through glove and skin(More)
OBJECTIVES To estimate the diagnostic accuracy of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SNB) in patients with penile cancer and assess SNB complications in a national multicentre setting. PATIENTS AND METHODS Retrospectively data were collected from records in four university centres by one medical doctor covering all SNBs performed in Denmark between 1 January(More)
A multiphoton excitation-based fluorescence fluctuation spectroscopy method, Raster image correlation spectroscopy (RICS), was used to measure the local diffusion coefficients of distinct model fluorescent substances in excised human skin. In combination with structural information obtained by multiphoton excitation fluorescence microscopy imaging, the(More)
Storage of skin at low temperatures may affect its structure. There is no report in the literature on the correlation between spatially resolved skin structure and percutaneous penetration after different storage conditions. The present study applies imaging techniques (multiphoton excitation fluorescence microscopy) and in vitro percutaneous penetration of(More)
A case of recurrent apocrine carcinoma of the axilla is presented. Following numerous excisions and exairesis of the regional glands, treatment with Tamoxifen was tried unsuccessfully. Local radiation therapy proved efficient. It is suggested that primary local radiation therapy be used as a supplement to aggressive surgery in the treatment of these tumors.
PURPOSE To validate lymphatic mapping combined with sentinel lymph node biopsy as a staging procedure, and to evaluate the possible clinical implications of added oblique lymphoscintigraphy and/or tomography and test the intra- and interobserver reproducibility of lymphoscintigraphy. MATERIAL AND METHODS Forty patients (17 F and 23 M, aged 32-90) with 24(More)
