Nerve growth factor (NGF) induces neurite outgrowth and differentiation in a process that involves NGF binding to its receptor TrkA and endocytosis of the NGF-TrkA complex into signaling endosomes. Here, we find that biogenesis of signaling endosomes requires inactivation of Rab5 to block early endosome fusion. Expression of dominant-negative Rab5 mutants… (More)
APPL1 is an effector of the small GTPase Rab5. Together, they mediate a signal transduction pathway initiated by ligand binding to cell surface receptors. Interaction with Rab5 is confined to the amino (N)-terminal region of APPL1. We report the crystal structures of human APPL1 N-terminal BAR-PH domain motif. The BAR and PH domains, together with a novel… (More)
In this paper we describe a novel technique to support information seeking in oral history archives using concept maps. We conducted a pilot study with teachers engaged in work tasks using a prototype concept mapping tool. Results suggest that concept maps can help searchers, especially when tasks are complex.
When refugees enter their new host countries, they are faced with a variety of challenges and often find themselves relying on others for help. Equipped with only basic technologies, refugees must utilize the little they have to navigate their new environments. Currently, there are no digital systems in place that ease the transition for newly arriving… (More)
Proteins contained on purified COPII vesi-cles were analyzed by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry combined with database searching. We identified four known vesicle proteins and Emp47p) that had not been localized to ER vesicles. Using antibodies, we demonstrate that these proteins are selectively and efficiently packaged into… (More)
