The downregulation of SEMA5A in tumor tissue, both at the transcriptional and translational levels, was associated with poor survival among nonsmoking women with NSCLC and may be useful as a prognostic biomarker forNSCLC, which may also be gender specific in Taiwanese patients.
Independent and combined effects of alcohol intake, tobacco smoking and betel quid chewing on the risk of esophageal cancer in Taiwan
The results suggest that the intensity and the length of time alcohol and tobacco are used play different roles in the etiology of esophageal cancer.

Among alcohol drinkers, the XRCC1399 Arg/Arg genotype was more frequently found in patients with esophageal cancer, and trends were observed among cigarette smokers and areca chewers, but they did not reach a statistical significance.
