We report on the generation of ultrashort pulses by dispersion management of a passively modelocked external cavity diode laser. Pulse widths down to 200 fs are obtained at 830 nm emission wavelength. We use intracavity dispersion management to increase the spectral bandwidth and compress the strongly chirped pulses externally with a grating compressor.
We demonstrate how water status measurements on plants can be performed using terahertz quasi time domain spectroscopy (THz QTDS). Compared with conventional THz TDS, this approach enables much more cost-efficient measurement setups and thus brings the technology closer to it's application in the field. Exemplary data is obtained from examining the drought… (More)
We investigate passively mode-locked diode lasers with external cavity for ultrashort pulse generation. Our strategy to achieve ultrashort pulses is to generate strongly chirped pulses with a maximized bandwidth and to compress them externally. By managing intracavity dispersion with an evolutionary algorithm, we obtain pulse widths as short as 278 fs… (More)
A self-optimizing approach to intra-cavity spectral shaping of external cavity mode-locked semiconductor lasers using edge-emitting multi-section diodes is presented. An evolutionary algorithm generates spectrally resolved phase- and amplitude masks that lead to the utilization of a large part of the net gain spectrum for mode-locked operation. Using these… (More)
We used a 3D printer to fabricate a dielectric waveguide for 120 GHz with a chirped structure on its outside. Internal propagating radiation is scattered to the outside and forms a focal point due to interference.
We analyze the influence of second and third order intracavity dispersion on a passively mode-locked diode laser by introducing a spatial light modulator (SLM) into the external cavity. The dispersion is optimized for chirped pulses with highest possible spectral bandwidth that can be externally compressed to the sub picosecond range. We demonstrate that… (More)
We investigate the impact of periodic sampling time errors of terahertz time-domain waveforms and analytically calculate the influence on the spectrum of the measurement. We assess the effects on optical parameter extraction.
We present a THz quasi time-domain spectroscopy (QTDS) system based on fiber coupled antennas operating at 1550 nm excitation wavelength. Frequency components up to 950 GHz can be generated with this setup. The signal to noise ratio of a single shot measurement is around 60 dB between 40 GHz and 240 GHz.
We present a regular fiber based THz spectrometer, which is driven by a monolithic semiconductor laser. Clean THz pulses with frequency components up to 0.9 THz can be generated with this ultra-compact light source.
Some years ago, an increase in the number of sporadic cases and outbreaks of salmonellosis due to S. enterica serovar Bovismorbificans was observed in several European countries including Finland, Sweden, England/Wales, Austria, and Germany. In order to understand the recent spread of this serovar and to trace the route of infection back to its source, it… (More)
