Infected human bites may result in devastating consequences. Failure to recognize the destructive potential of infections of bone, tendons, joints, and soft tissue caused by oral microorganisms can lead to serious loss of intrinsic functions. Rapid prevention or resolution of infection by appropriate use of antibiotics and surgical treatment continues to be(More)
PURPOSE The aim of this two-center study was to evaluate screw-type titanium implants with a chemically modified, sandblasted and acid-etched surface when placed in the posterior maxilla or mandible, and loaded 21 days after placement. MATERIAL AND METHODS All 56 patients met strict inclusion criteria and provided informed consent. Each patient displayed(More)
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to reassess Champy's findings, which were instrumental in justifying the theory of tension band plating for mandibular angle fractures. STUDY DESIGN Ten anatomically correct mandibles were fabricated with a photoelastic resin. In five mandibles, angle fractures were created and fixed with a superior border(More)
BACKGROUND Streptococcal gingivostomatitis is a rare phenomenon in a non-compromised host and not commonly reported in the dental literature. Early diagnosis and distinction from viral infections, especially HSV infection, are of the utmost importance. The early use of penicillin is essential in preventing a cascade of events, resulting in severe fasciitis,(More)
In the present histologic study of the mandibles of five foxhounds, 15 nonsubmerged titanium implants were placed in bone regenerated in extended membrane-protected defects during a 6-month healing period. The clinical and radiographic evaluation demonstrated that all 15 implants achieved functional ankylosis within 3 months following implant placement.(More)
Guided bone regeneration is a predictable and well-documented surgical approach for the treatment of deficient alveolar ridges prior to endosseous implant placement. The purpose of this study was to compare a new resorbable membrane (GORE RESOLUT ADAPT Regenerative Membrane, i.e. 67% glycolide (PGA) : 33% trimethyline carbonate (TMC)) with Bio-Gide, a(More)
A prospective randomized study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of clotrimazole troches and nystatin suspension to prevent oral candidiasis in immunosuppressed orthotopic liver transplant patients. Thirty-four patients received either clotrimazole troches, 10 mg, five times daily, or nystatin suspension, 500,000 units, four times daily. Prophylaxis(More)
An implant has been developed as an adjunct to conventional orthodontic anchorage. Planning is advisable to determine the available bone and soft tissue thickness and the optimum position for orthodontic utilization. A simple method is described for fabrication of a radiographic and surgical template to aid in optimal placement of the implant.
