The results suggest that the antifungal perfusion through biofilm mode of growth in Candida is dependent both on the antimycotic and the Candida species in question, and in clinical terms, these phenomena could contribute to the failure of Candida biofilm-associated infections.
Analysis of clustered genes encoding both early and late steps in daunomycin biosynthesis by Streptomyces sp. strain C5
- M. Dickens, J. Ye, W. Strohl
- Biology, EngineeringJournal of Bacteriology

Directed Evolution and Structural Analysis of Alkaline Pectate Lyase from the Alkaliphilic Bacterium Bacillus sp. Strain N16-5 To Improve Its Thermostability for Efficient Ramie Degumming
- Cheng Zhou, J. Ye, Yanfen Xue, Yanhe Ma
- Biology, EngineeringApplied and Environmental Microbiology

Structural and molecular dynamic simulation analysis indicated that the formation of a hydrophobic cluster and new H-bond networks was the key factor contributing to the improvement in thermostability with single E124I, T178A, and S271G substitutions.
Cloning, sequencing, and analysis of aklaviketone reductase from Streptomyces sp. strain C5
- M. Dickens, J. Ye, W. Strohl
- Biology, ChemistryJournal of Bacteriology
- 1 June 1996
DNA sequence analysis of a region of the Streptomyces sp. strain C5 daunomycin biosynthesis gene cluster, located just upstream of the daunomycin polyketide biosynthesis genes, revealed the presence…

This study defined growth conditions that promoted the formation of biofilms and used microscopy and enzymatic digestion of extracellular material to characterize biofilm structures and provides a new level of understanding about the molecular mechanisms involved in biofilm formation of this important member of the Deep Lake community.
Isolation and sequence analysis of polyketide synthase genes from the daunomycin-producing Streptomyces sp. strain C5

The DNA sequence of an 8.1-kbp EcoRI fragment was determined, revealing seven complete open reading frames (ORFs), two in one cluster and five in a divergently transcribed cluster, which are likely to encode PKR and a bifunctional cyclase/dehydrase.

It is concluded that CBD is a useful, simple, low cost miniature device for parallel study of Candida biofilms and factors modulating this phenomenon.
Reduction of Chloroplast DNA Content in Solanum nigrum Suspension Cells by Treatment with Chloroplast DNA Synthesis Inhibitors.
The selective reduction of cp DNA content in regeneratable cultures may facilitate the generation and selection of cpDNA mutants or transformants from higher plants and suggest that DNA gyrases participate in cpDNA replication.
