Evidence-Based Compression: Prevention of Stasis and Deep Vein Thrombosis
- R. Morris, J. Woodcock
- MedicineAnnals of Surgery
- 1 February 2004
There is no evidence that the peak venous velocity produced by a system is a valid measure of medical performance, and the most important factors in selecting a mechanical prophylactic system are patient compliance and the appropriateness of the site of compression.
The Quantitative Analysis of Occlusive Peripheral Arterial Disease By a Non-Intrusive Ultrasonic Technique
- R. Gosling, G. Dunbar, D. Macmillan
- BiologyAngiology
- 1 January 1971
Investigation of the vascular system using ultrasonic Doppler-shift techniques is rapidly attracting clinical attention and it is known that partial obstruction of the arterial pathway and the presence of collateral vessels produces damping of the pulse.

Physical properties of blood and their influence on blood-flow measurement
- J. Woodcock
- Engineering
- 1976
The paper discusses the structure and composition of blood, its viscous properties and how these affect flow, and also the electrical, optical and thermal properties, which can be used to quantify…

Intermittent Pneumatic Compression or Graduated Compression Stockings for Deep Vein Thrombosis Prophylaxis?: A Systematic Review of Direct Clinical Comparisons
- R. Morris, J. Woodcock
- MedicineAnnals of Surgery
- 1 March 2010
There is only weak evidence to show a difference in performance between the devices, however, given the many influential factors, caution should be taken in assuming equivalence.
Principles of Physics in Surgery: The Laws of Mechanics and Vectors Physics for Surgeons—Part 2
- A. Srivastava, A. Sood, J. Woodcock
- PhysicsIndian Journal of Surgery
- 16 November 2010
The heating effect of current explains the optimum gap between the prongs of a bipolar cautery and the use of law of transfer of heat in determining relation between healthy wound healing and ambient temperature is discussed.
A Validated Model of Calf Compression and Deep Vessel Collapse During External Cuff Inflation
- A. Narracott, G. John, R. Morris, J. Woodcock, D. Hose, P. Lawford
- MedicineIEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering
- 1 February 2009
A validated model of calf compression with an external pressure cuff as used for deep vein thrombosis suggests that external measurements of the calf tissue deformation will not accurately predict deep vessel collapse and could help to improve cuff design.
