Results of in vivo tests indicated that sisomicin may be the most active, and it is suggested that the place of each of the antibiotics in human therapy can best be evaluated by more rigorous in vitro tests and clinical studies rather than extensive in vitro comparisons.

In February, 1970, at the District of Columbia General Hospital, there occurred a sudden outbreak of serious infections caused by gentamicin-resistant strains of gram-negative rods, showing the same strain of Klebsiella type 22, resistant to all common antibiotics except cephalothin and the polymyxins.

Antibiotic 6640 is a new aminoglycoside antibiotic isolated from fermentation broths of a new species of the genus Microm onospora, named Micromonospora inyoensis, which appears to be quite similar to that of gentamicin in vitro and in vivo.

Initial studies demonstrated that the 3 components of gentamicin have nearly identical in vitro activity and showed that the acute toxicity as well as the protective activity of the3 components against Staphylococcus aureus were not significantly different in mice.

Kijanimicin (Sch 25663), a novel antibiotic produced by Actinomadura kijaniata SCC 1256. Fermentation, isolation, characterization and biological properties.
A novel antibiotic complex has been isolated form the fermentation broth of a new species of Actinomadura and possesses an unusual in vitro spectrum of activity against some Gram-positive and anaerobic microorganisms and in vivo it has also shown interesting activity against malaria.

Results of comparative ataxia tests in cats are reported and Antibiotic 6640 has up to 5 times the activity of gentamicin in therapeutic and prophylactic antibacterial tests in mice.

In vitro, but not in vivo, some gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria are inhibited by low concentrations of clotrimazole, and Pretreatment with the agent may decrease its efficacy because of drug inactivation.
