Final version of the American Joint Committee on Cancer staging system for cutaneous melanoma.
TLDR
This revision of the staging system for cutaneous melanoma will become official with publication of the sixth edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual in the year 2002.
Prognostic factors analysis of 17,600 melanoma patients: validation of the American Joint Committee on Cancer melanoma staging system.
TLDR
The proposed tumor-node-metastases categories and stage groupings for cutaneous melanoma patients were validated and incorporated into the AJCC melanoma staging as described in the companion publication.
Adoptive T cell therapy using antigen-specific CD8+ T cell clones for the treatment of patients with metastatic melanoma: In vivo persistence, migration, and antitumor effect of transferred T cells
TLDR
It is demonstrated that the adoptively transferred T cell clones persist in vivo in response to low-dose IL-2, preferentially localize to tumor sites and mediate an antigen-specific immune response characterized by the elimination of antigen-positive tumor cells, regression of individual metastases, and minor, mixed or stable responses in 8 of 10 patients with refractory, metastatic disease for up to 21 mo.
Nitration and inactivation of manganese superoxide dismutase in chronic rejection of human renal allografts.
TLDR
A role for peroxynitrite during development and progression of chronic rejection in human renal allografts is suggested, and inactivation of manganese superoxide dismutase by peroxlynitrite may represent a general mechanism that progressively increases the production of peroxysine nitration, leading to irreversible oxidative injury to mitochondria.
Oxygen radical inhibition of nitric oxide-dependent vascular function in sickle cell disease
TLDR
Data reveal that episodes of intrahepatic hypoxia-reoxygenation associated with SCD can induce the release of XO into the circulation from the liver.
Peroxynitrite-mediated inactivation of manganese superoxide dismutase involves nitration and oxidation of critical tyrosine residues.
TLDR
Observations are consistent with previous results using chronically rejecting human renal allografts and provide a compelling argument supporting the involvement of peroxynitrite during this pathophysiologic condition.
Extracellular FGF-1 acts as a lens differentiation factor in transgenic mice.
TLDR
It is provided an in vivo demonstration that FGF-1 can induce anterior lens epithelial cells to express characteristics consistent with the onset of fiber cell differentiation, and confirms that normal lens morphology reflects an asymmetric distribution of inductive factors within the eye.
Hydralazine prevents nitroglycerin tolerance by inhibiting activation of a membrane-bound NADH oxidase. A new action for an old drug.
TLDR
The ability of hydralazine to inhibit vascular .O2- anion production represents a novel mechanism of action for this drug.
Development Rates of Male Bovine Nuclear Transfer Embryos Derived from Adult and Fetal Cells1
TLDR
Somatic NT embryo development rates were similar whether adult or fetal cells, from the same genotype, were used as donor cells, but when fetal cells were serum-starved, there was a significant increase in development to blastocyst.
