Standardized Rehabilitation and Hospital Length of Stay Among Patients With Acute Respiratory Failure: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
Patients in the SRT group received daily therapy until hospital discharge, consisting of passive range of motion, physical therapy, and progressive resistance exercise, and there was no difference in duration of ventilation or ICU care. Expand
Establishment and characterization of a human carcinoid in nude mice and effect of various agents on tumor growth.
Establishment of this human carcinoid xenograft line, BON, provides an excellent model to study further the biological behavior of carcinoid tumors and the in vivo effect of chemotherapeutic agents on tumor growth. Expand
Organ physiology of aging.
It is imperative that the surgeon identify the elderly patient who is at increased risk for complications, and specific consideration must be given to proper management of fluid and electrolyte replacement, respiratory management to prevent atelectasis and pneumonia, and monitoring for possible cardiac complications. Regulation of the release of cholecystokinin by bile salts in dogs and humans.
A physiologic role of bile salts in the negative feedback regulation of release of cholecystokinin in response to luminal nutrients is supported, and replacement of the bile salt pool by intraduodenal administration of taurocholate completely reversed the enhancement effect of both cholestyramine and bile diversion. Gastrin receptors in normal and malignant gastrointestinal mucosa: age-associated changes.
Synthetic human gastrin 17-I (MG) and an analogue, [Leu15]gastrin-17-I (LG), were radiolabeled with Na125I by Iodo-Gen, EnzymoBead, and chloramine-T methods, and the characteristics of theExpand
Differential regulation by TGF-beta 1 and insulin of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-2 in IEC-6 cells.
The findings suggest that the upregulation of IGFBP-2 by TGF-beta 1 occurs, at least in part, at the level of mRNA, whereas the regulation by insulin appears to be at a posttranslational level, and that the T GF- beta 1-stimulated production of IGF BP may contribute to the growth-inhibitory action in intestinal epithelial cells. Receptor‐mediated autocrine growth‐stimulatory effect of 5‐hydroxytryptamine on cultured human pancreatic carcinoid cells
5‐HT is an autocrine growth factor for BON cells and that mitogenic mechanism of 5‐HT involves receptor‐mediated toxin‐sensitive GTP binding protein, confirmed by the observation that a cAMP‐dependent protein kinase antagonist (Rp‐cAMPS) could stimulate BON cell growth. Expand
Superoxide dismutase and catalase: a possible role in established pancreatitis.
It is demonstrated that superoxide dismutase and catalase reduce the ultrastructural and biochemical injury associated with cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis in rats. Expand
Preoperative Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in Patients with Pancreatic Pseudocyst Associated with Resolving Acute and Chronic Pancreatitis
It is suggested that ERCP should be performed in all patients with pseudocysts to establish correct diagnosis and to allow optimal choice of operation. Expand
