Association of Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease with Chronic Kidney Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
In a systematic review and meta-analysis, Giovanni Musso and colleagues examine the association between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and chronic kidney disease and finds no clear link between the two.

Cholangiocyte senescence induced by biliary constituents by way of N‐Ras activation is an important pathogenic mechanism in PSC.

Emerging data suggest that oral antibiotics may have therapeutic effects in primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), but published studies are limited.
Absence of the intestinal microbiota exacerbates hepatobiliary disease in a murine model of primary sclerosing cholangitis
The hypothesis that germ‐free (GF) mutltidrug resistance 2 knockout mice develop a distinct PSC phenotype and cholangiocyte senescence was tested, demonstrating the importance of the commensal microbiota and its metabolites in protecting against biliary injury and suggest avenues for future studies of biomarkers and therapeutic interventions in PSC.
The dynamic biliary epithelia: molecules, pathways, and disease.
Endoscopic treatment of postorthotopic liver transplantation anastomotic biliary strictures with maximal stent therapy (with video).
Physiology of cholangiocytes.

The main physiologic function of cholangiocytes is modification of hepatocyte-derived bile, an intricate process regulated by hormones, peptides, nucleotides, neurotransmitters, and other molecules through intracellular signaling pathways and cascades.
Role of the Microbiota and Antibiotics in Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis
Data are provided which support further investigation of the role of the microbiota and antibiotics in PSC as potential avenues toward elucidating safe and effective pharmacotherapy for patients afflicted by this illness.
Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-Induced Biliary Epithelial Cell NRas Activation Requires Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR)
It is suggested that EGFR is essential for LPS-induced, TLR4/MyD88-mediated NRas activation and induction of a robust proinflammatory cholangiocyte response and implicate EGFR as an integral component of cholangsiocyte TLR-induced proinflammatory processes.

Among patients with IBD, a higher level of perceived stress is a strong predictor of lowerHRQOL and lower adherence to provider recommendations, and females with CD and patients with higher number of IBD relapses may be at risk of lower HRQOL.
