Molecular Evidence Suggesting Species in the Zoanthid Genera Palythoa and Protopalythoa (Anthozoa: Hexacorallia) Are Congeneric
The phylogenetic trees for both COI and 16S rDNA from Palythoa and Protopalythoa show four monophyletic groups, which strongly indicate that these samples represent a minimum of two and possibly up to four species, and that the genus Protopallythoa is erroneous nomenclature.

Based on the obtained COI gene sequences, all but one of the collected Zoanthus samples appear to be conspecific, with nearly 100.00% base pair matching, which indicates a need to reconsider and re-analyze current Zoan Thus classification and identification.
Four new species and one new genus of zoanthids (Cnidaria, Hexacorallia) from the Galapagos Islands
Four new species of undescribed macrocnemic zoanthids in the Galápagos Islands are described, including two belonging to a new genus Terrazoanthus, which can be distinguished from the type genus Hydrozoanthus by being attached to abiotic substrate as opposed to hydrozoans for Hydrozoans.

This study examined the species diversity of zoanthids from the genera Zoanthus and Palythoa, as well as their associated symbiotic dinoflagellates (Symbiodinium spp.), for the first time in Singapore, and demonstrated the necessity of further worldwide zoathid sampling in order to properly understand the distribution and diversity of zooxanthellate zoanTHids.
The Parazoanthidae (Hexacorallia: Zoantharia) DNA taxonomy: description of two new genera
The genetic data suggest that the revised genus Parazoanthus is still polyphyletic and is composed of three distinctive subclades, however, as currently these subClades can essentially be differentiated by genetic data, these sub clades should remain within Parazoaenthus until further molecular, ecological and morphological studies help to clarify their status and relationships to each other.
