In addition to non-specific dystrophic changes of the axons, the Schwann cells contained several distinct bodies which were composed of stacks of irregularly disposed membranes; in some instances, transformed Schwann cell cytoplasm was distinded with similar bodies.

An improved agar plate method of biotin bioassay using Lactobacillus plantarum ATCC 8014 and bromocresol purple was established and it is suggested that this assay is sufficiently accurate and reproducible for routine use in the clinical laboratory.
