The authors used model-based cluster analysis to identify subtypes of criminal psychopaths on the basis of differences in personality structure, and suggested that psychopaths as defined by the PCL-R includes distinct subtypes, distinguishable in terms of personality structure.

Using diffusion tensor imaging and functional magnetic resonance imaging, it is shown that psychopathy is associated with reduced structural integrity in the right uncinate fasciculus, the primary white matter connection between vmPFC and anterior temporal lobe and between amygdala and medial parietal cortex.
