Investigation and identify the bacterial diversity associated with wild adult female Lutzomyia sand flies from different geographical locations in the New World confirmed that the Lutzomeia sand fly contain a limited array of bacterial phylotypes across several divisions.
STRUCTURE AND COMPOSITION OF THE WHITE GRUB COMPLEX (COLEOPTERA: SCARABAEIDAE*) IN AGROECOLOGICAL SYSTEMS OF NORTHERN CAUCA, COLOMBIA
- L. C. Pardo-Locarno, J. Montoya-Lerma, A. Bellotti, A. Van Schoonhoven
- Biology
- 1 December 2005
Adult and larval sampling methods permitted a more precise definition of the whitegrub complex in Caldono and Buenos Aires and revealed at least a third of the species sampled as larvae are rhizophagous pests.

It is hypothesised that the presence of infected dogs in areas where L shannoni or L youngi occur could initiate new endemic cycles of VL in both South and North America.
Biological parameters of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) biotype B (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) on Jatropha gossypiifolia, commercial (Manihot esculenta) and wild cassava (Manihot flabellifolia and M.…

The data suggest that J. gossypiifolia is a suitable host and the wild species M. carthaginensis can constitute a potential intermediate host in the adaptation of biotype B to commercial varieties of cassava.
Impact of Habitat Degradation on Phlebotominae (Diptera: Psychodidae) of Tropical Dry Forests in Northern Colombia
- B. Travi, G. Adler, M. Lozano, H. Cadena, J. Montoya-Lerma
- Environmental ScienceJournal of medical entomology

Habitat degradation negatively affected sand fly communities, but medically important species were able to exploit modified environments, thereby contributing to Leishmania endemicity.
Sublethal effects of Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin (Deuteromycotina: Hyphomycetes) on the whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) under laboratory conditions
- E. Torrado-León, J. Montoya-Lerma, Edison Valencia-Pizo
- Biology, MedicineMycopathologia
- 1 December 2006
Sublethal effects were evaluated in subsequent generations of whiteflies Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) arising from parental generations exposed in the four nymphal stages to the fungus Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin, and a gradual reduction in mortality rates between subsequent generations was observed.
