The Asian shore crab, Hemigrapsus sanguineus (de Haan, 1853), discovered on the coast of New Jersey in 1988, is now known to be distributed in the western Atlantic from Massachusetts (south of Boston) to Oregon Inlet, North Carolina.

It is concluded that the rate of future zoonotic disease emergence or reemergence will be closely linked to the evolution of the agriculture–environment nexus, and available research inadequately addresses the complexity and interrelatedness of environmental, biological, economic, and social dimensions of zoonosis.
