Marine Biodiversity in the Caribbean: Regional Estimates and Distribution Patterns
- P. Miloslavich, J. M. Díaz, M. Ortiz
- Environmental SciencePLoS ONE
- 2 August 2010
The state of knowledge of marine biodiversity is analyzed based on the geographic distribution of georeferenced species records and regional taxonomic lists and it is found that the currently accepted classification of marine ecoregions of the Caribbean did not apply for the benthic distributions of five relatively well known taxonomic groups.

Marine Biodiversity in the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts of South America: Knowledge and Gaps
- P. Miloslavich, Eduardo Klein, Alberto Martín
- Environmental SciencePLoS ONE
- 31 January 2011
This paper analyzes the status of knowledge of marine biodiversity in five subregions along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of South America: the Tropical East Pacific, the Humboldt Current, the Patagonian Shelf, the Brazilian Shelves, and the Tropical West Atlantic, and it provides a review of ecosystem threats and regional marine conservation strategies.

Colombia es reconocido como un pais megadiverso con base en la cantidad de especies de plantas y animales terrestres que posee. Esto, debido, entre otras cosas, a que tiene costas sobre el mar Caribe…
Gorgonian communities in two contrasting environments on oceanic atolls of the southwestern Caribbean
- J. A. Sánchez, J. M. Díaz, S. Zea
- Environmental Science
- 1997
Although the counts of gorgonian colonies per station were quite similar in both environments, species number, colony size and cover index values were significantly greater in the fore-reef terraces, suggesting that zones with low relief bottoms exposed to surf and swell represent a more suitable habitat for the development of diverse and structurally more complex gorgian communities.
