Evaluation of membrane filter methods for DNA-DNA hybridization
- J. Ley, R. Tijtgat
- BiologyAntonie van Leeuwenhoek
- 2005
Three membrane filter methods for DNA hybridization were compared and the dimethylsulfoxide filter method (Legault-Démare et al., 1967) can be recommended for the entire temperature and % GC range.
Transfer of Enterobacter agglomerans (Beijerinck 1888) Ewing and Fife 1972 to Pantoea gen. nov. as Pantoea agglomerans comb. nov. and Description of Pantoea dispersa sp. nov.
- F. Gavini, J. Mergaert, J. Ley
- Biology
- 1 July 1989
DNA hybridization group 14589 constitutes a discrete species within the family Enterobacteriaceae and is proposed to unite DNA hybridization groups 14589 and 27155 in a single genus, Pantoea gen. nov.
NOTES: Comamonadaceae, a New Family Encompassing the Acidovorans rRNA Complex, Including Variovorax paradoxus gen. nov., comb. nov., for Alcaligenes paradoxus (Davis 1969)
- A. Willems, J. Ley, M. Gillis, K. Kersters
- Biology
- 1 July 1991
A new family, the Comamonadaceae, is proposed for the organisms belonging to the acidovorans rRNA complex in the beta subclass of the Proteobacteria, as well as a number of phylogenetically misnamed Aquaspirillum and phytopathogenic Pseudomonas species.
Hydrogenophaga, a new genus of hydrogen-oxidizing bacteria that includes Hydrogenophaga flava comb. nov. (formerly Pseudomonas flava), Hydrogenophaga palleronii (formerly Pseudomonas palleronii),…
- A. Willems, J. Busse, J. Ley
- Biology
- 1 July 1989
The results show that these five yellow-pigmented hydrogen-oxidizing Pseudomonas species are more closely related to each other than to other taxa belonging to the acidovorans rRNA complex.
Azoarcus gen. nov., Nitrogen-Fixing Proteobacteria Associated with Roots of Kallar Grass (Leptochloa fusca (L.) Kunth), and Description of Two Species, Azoarcus indigens sp. nov. and Azoarcus…
- B. Reinhold-Hurek, T. Hurek, J. Ley
- Biology
- 1 July 1993
A new genus is proposed, the genus Azoarcus, for nitrogen-fixing bacteria associated with roots of Leptochloa fusca (L.) Kunth in saline-sodic soils in the Punjab of Pakistan, which have a strictly aerobic type of metabolism, fix nitrogen microaerobically, and grow well on salts of organic acids but not on carbohydrates.
Acetobacter diazotrophicus sp. nov., a Nitrogen-Fixing Acetic Acid Bacterium Associated with Sugarcane
- M. Gillis, K. Kersters, J. Ley
- Biology
- 1 July 1989
Results of deoxyribon nucleic acid (DNA)-ribosomal ribonucleic acid and DNA-DNA hybridizations revealed that nitrogen-fixing bacteria isolated from roots and stems of sugarcane belong to a new species in the genus Acetobacter, for which the name AcetOBacter diazotrophicus sp.
Azospirillum halopraeferens sp. nov., a Nitrogen-Fixing Organism Associated with Roots of Kallar Grass (Leptochloa fusca (L.) Kunth)
- B. Reinhold, T. Hurek, J. Ley
- Biology
- 1987
Among the nitrogen-fixing bacteria associated with the roots of Leptochloa fusca (L.) Kunth in salt-affected soils in the Punjab region of Pakistan, a homogeneous group of eight diazotrophs is found, clearly distinct from Azospirillum amazonense, AzospIRillum lipoferum, and Azospurillum brasilense.
Frateuria, a New Genus for “Acetobacter aurantius”
- J. Swings, M. Gillis, K. Kersters, P. Vos, F. Gosselé, J. Ley
- Biology
- 1 July 1980
The properties and taxonomic positions of 11 strains previously identified as members of “Acetobacter aurantius Kondo and Ameyama” (this name is not on the Approved Lists) were reexamined, and a new genus is proposed, Frateuria gen. nov.
Taxonomy of Moraxellaceae fam. nov., a New Bacterial Family To Accommodate the Genera Moraxella, Acinetobacter, and Psychrobacter and Related Organisms
- R. Rossau, A. V. Landschoot, M. Gillis, J. Ley
- Biology
- 1 April 1991
DNA-rRNA hybridization results showed that members of the genus Moraxella, members of the genus Psychrobacter and their relatives, members of the genus Acinetobacter, the false neisseriae, and two…
Bordetella avium sp. nov., Isolated from the Respiratory Tracts of Turkeys and Other Birds
- K. Kersters, K. Hinz, J. Ley
- Biology
- 1984
The phenotypic and serological characteristics, together with the properties of the deoxyribon nucleic acid-ribosomal ribonucleic acid hybrids, indicated that this new species is a member of the genus Bordetella.
