Trophic structure patterns of Brazilian reef fishes: a latitudinal comparison
- C. E. Ferreira, S. R. Floeter, J. L. Gasparini, B. P. Ferreira, J. Joyeux
- Environmental Science, Geography
- 1 July 2004
Latitudinal patterns seem to be influenced by phylogeny, physiological constraints, and also by anthropogenic impacts, and other herbivores seem to overcome this through symbiotic microbial digestive processes (kyphosids), manipulating the structure of algal turfs or increasing animal protein from within the territory (pomacentrids).
Reef fish community structure on coastal islands of the southeastern Brazil: the influence of exposure and benthic cover
- S. R. Floeter, W. Krohling, J. L. Gasparini, C. Ferreira, I. Zalmon
- Environmental ScienceEnvironmental Biology of Fishes
- 8 January 2007
Within-family analyses of Pomacentridae and Labridae showed that niche partitioning is likely occurring and seems to be mediated by swimming ‘ability’ and associated feeding performance.
Geographic variation in reef-fish assemblages along the Brazilian coast
- S. R. Floeter, R. Z. Guimarães, L. Rocha, C. Ferreira, C. Rangel, J. L. Gasparini
- Environmental Science
- 1 July 2001
The species composition of reef-fish assemblages from nine Brazilian major coastal sites and four oceanic islands are compared. Canonical corres- pondence analysis (CCA) was utilized to identify…
Biogeography of tropical reef fishes: the South Atlantic puzzle
- J. Joyeux, S. R. Floeter, C. E. Ferreira, J. L. Gasparini
- Environmental Science
- 1 July 2001
To reveal underlying distributional mechanisms of tropical reef fishes in the South Atlantic, a large number of previously unknown reef fishes have been studied using a probabilistic approach.
The shore fishes of Trindade Island, western South Atlantic
- J. L. Gasparini, S. R. Floeter
- Environmental Science, Biology
- 1 November 2001
This work intends to provide the first comprehensive checklist for the shore fishes of Trindade Island, with information on the ecology and geographical distribution of each species.
Reef fishes of St. Paul's Rocks: new records and notes on biology and zoogeography
- B. Feitoza, L. Rocha, O. J. Luiz-Júnior, S. R. Floeter, J. L. Gasparini
- Environmental Science
- 2003
Of the 58 reef fishes recorded, four are endemic to St. Paul’s Rocks and about 80% also occur off the coast of Brazil, thought therefore to be regarded as an impoverished outpost of the Brazilian province.
Marine Ornamental Trade in Brazil
- J. L. Gasparini, S. R. Floeter, C. Ferreira, I. Sazima
- Environmental ScienceBiodiversity and Conservation
- 1 November 2005
A series of urgent measures are suggested, including the creation of specific laws for marine ornamental harvesting and improving law enforcement to prevent illegal trade in Brazil, to alleviate ecological impacts.
The southwestern Atlantic reef fish fauna: composition and zoogeographic patterns
- S. R. Floeter, J. L. Gasparini
- Environmental Science
- 1 May 2000
Species geographic ranges suggest the recognition of only two western Atlantic zoogeographic provinces for tropical marine shore fishes, and Ascension and St Helena should be regarded as a separated Central Atlantic Province.
South‐western Atlantic reef fishes: Zoogeographical patterns and ecological drivers reveal a secondary biodiversity centre in the Atlantic Ocean
- H. Pinheiro, L. Rocha, S. R. Floeter
- Art
- 1 July 2018
To present an updated database of fish species recorded on south‐western Atlantic reef environments and to explore the ecological drivers of the structure, the latitudinal gradient of biodiversity…
Coastal Fishes of São Tomé and Príncipe islands, Gulf of Guinea (Eastern Atlantic Ocean)—an update
- P. Wirtz, C. Ferreira, U. Schliewen
- Biology, Environmental Science
- 9 July 2007
Ten of the 59 new records of shore fishes for Sao Tome and Principe islands are new species still to be described, including a new genus of a gobiid fish that lives in association with an axiid shrimp.
